Many men when they learn their partner has a vaginal yeast infection, the more common form of yeast infections, wonder if they too can get a candida albicans penis infection if they have unprotected sexual intercourse. Here is some information on the male yeast infection, how it can happen and what it looks like. Keep in mind that a penile yeast infection is not a common occurrence so if you are suffering from symptoms you think may be a yeast infection it would be a good idea to see your doctor and get it examined and correctly diagnosed so that you also get the right treatment that is effective, and in case what you really have is a contagious STD that you should be aware of to be responsible when it comes to your sexual activities.

Male candida causes

As you may have notice the candida albicans penis infection is referred to as many things, male yeast infection, penile or penis yeast infection, candida penile infection, male candida and so on. They are all names for the same condition, when the penis is affected by the overgrowth of candida albicans, a fungus that lives on the body already. Because yeast infections are caused by candida growing to numbers that are too high for the body to handle rather than something you ‘catch’, it is actually very unlikely for a man to get a yeast infection if the female has one. However it is possible, and so if you want to avoid the risks, make sure to use a condom during sex or abstain until she has successfully treated it. In the young wet diapers can be a cause, but in general causes for this form are the same as for women, poor diet, stress, wet clothing, antibiotics and so on. Men who still have their foreskin are more likely to get a yeast infection than those without.

Candida albicans penis infection on the glans

The glans is the head of the penis and when a yeast infection manifests there it is called Balanitis. Symptoms will therefore include inflammation in that area, redness, possibly a liquid discharge, itching, pain and sometimes blisters. About 11% of men have this condition and 3% of boys wearing diapers get a yeast infection at some point.

General penile yeast infection symptoms

Burning sensation

Discomfort or unable to have intercourse

Symptoms are worse after intercourse

An itching rash

Redness

Treating a candida albicans penis infection

There are creams that are anti-fungal that can be applied, in fact the treatments advertised for vaginal yeast infections can be used for male too, apart from the vaginal suppository forms of course! Your doctor may prescribe something if you need a stronger medication. You may need to change your diet habits too as many men who get yeast infections find the root cause is a poor diet. Restrict foods full of sugar, limit junk, processed and refined foods, limit also alcohol and caffeine.

Candida glabrata and Candida albicans look very similar. The yeast infections they can cause to occur are much the same in symptoms and where they can occur. For a person suffering from a yeast infection the chances are it is an albicans overgrowth, but a small per cent of people can suffer from Candida glabrata overgrowth. The only way to tell which you have is to visit a doctor and for tests to be done and sent to a lab where cultures can be examined. Usually though it is patients in hospital that may have problems with Candida glabrata.

If you are in hospital and have an infection tests will most probably already be done as part of the process. A urine analysis can also be done but this is not as accurate and the problem with cultures is they take time to grow and if a person is seriously ill with a systemic yeast infection caused by Candida glabrata time is very important. When the culture is ready the difference between the two is easy to spot because glabrata is much smaller than albicans.

Yeast infections are a growing problem affecting everyone, men and women of all ages, from the very young newly born to the elderly. There are a lot of treatment options out there now, medicated over the counter, medicated prescribed, natural products, herbal, home remedies, homeopathic and so on. There are several oils that can be used to treat candida and coconut oil is one of them. For candida sufferers who are looking for an alternative treatment for their problem, perhaps because drugs have not worked or because you are interested in natural means of treatment, coconut oil is an effective option you may want to consider.

How does it work?

Using coconut oil to treat candida is effective because of the fatty acids chains found in it, capric acid, a 10 carbon saturated fatty acid, and lauric acid a 12 carbon saturated fatty acid. Capric acid kills several strains of candida albicans quickly and effectively and lauric acid is active even at low concentrations. It is a component of breast milk and is part of what helps the baby’s immune system develop. Therefore if other means of treatment have been ineffective due to resistance from the fungus, using coconut oil to treat candida is a viable alternative treatment option.

How to use coconut oil to treat candida

When using coconut oil to treat candida make sure you are using virgin or organic oil only. There are three main ways to use it, depending on the form of infection,as part of your diet for intestinal overgrowth, topically for skin or external yeast infections and then on a tampon as a suppository for a vaginal yeast infection. Here is an explanation of each method.

Topically – Just rub on the site of the infection like you would a lotion or body oil. It will help soothe the symptoms while it acts against the candida.

On a tampon – Warm up the oil gently until it is in liquid form and dip a tampon into it. Then insert into the vagina to treat a vaginal yeast infection. Each night before going to bed do this and wear a pad with underwear in case of leaking. Repeat for about 5 nights and your infection should clear up.

In your diet – Cut out sugars and refined foods and then build up to getting three and a half tablespoons of coconut oil in your diet each day. Also take a probiotic supplement to top up your good bacteria. Drink a lot of water to flush out toxins and help combat the symptoms of candida die-off. If these symptoms get too difficult to live with, cut back on how much oil you are taking to slow down the death rate of the fungus. The great thing with coconut oil is that it can be cooked at high temperatures without loosing the fatty acids that make it an anti-fungal treatment. Use it in stir frys, baking, smoothies – just use your imagination.

The answer to this really depends on where in the world you are asking from! In northern America, the term Thrush is interchanged with oral yeast infections or mouth yeast infection. However in the UK Thrush is just another name for a yeast infection, a woman can have Thrush and it refer to a vaginal yeast infection, or a man might have Thrush and it refers to a penile yeast infection. Thrush there is interchanged with candida, yeast infection, candida overgrowth, candidiasis and so on.

So Thrush is another name for a yeast infection, in some places that could be any form of yeast infection, in others it means specifically the mouth. Thrush is caused by the yeast Candida albicans that lives on all of us being triggered into an overgrowth. At that point it becomes a pathogenic fungus that releases toxins that cause a yeast infection such as Thrush. On this site all articles have used Thrush as a term for oral yeast infections.

Over three quarters of the women in the world will or already have dealt with a yeast infection and its uncomfortable symptoms. Vaginal yeast infection is the most common type but it can happen in the mouth (Thrush), under skin folds and in the penis too. It thrives in warm, wet and dark areas of the body. It is caused by a fungus called Candida Albicans over growing due to a weakened immune system, hormonal changes, loss of good bacteria which were the microorganisms that controlled the fungus or it can be passed on during sexual intercourse.

It is vital to take care of the infection as soon as you can, the sooner it is treated the easier it is to get rid of and the less complications there can be. In order to recognize whether you have a yeast infection look for penile or vaginal itching, white discharge, rash and redness. If it is Thrush there may be a white crust in the mouth below which are lesions that bleed if the crust is removed and bad breath.
Here are four pieces of advice to help cure and prevent recurring yeast infections:

1) Clean regularly, if you can, try to shower a couple of times a day and very importantly dry thoroughly. Since the yeast thrives in warm and wet regions keeping it cool and dry will inhibit them.
2) Look carefully at your diet and make changes if they are needed. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables as this will strengthen your immune system thus helping it fight the infection. Avoid sugar and sugary foods as sugar feeds the fungus. Also cut out alcohol and fermented items as these have nutrients the yeast uses to grow.
3) Take a vinegar bath, just add a few drops of it to your bath water and this will help readjust the pH of the area back to what it should be, which is an environment the yeast will not like.
4) Garlic is a great home remedy as it has anti fungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties! Wrap a peeled clove in gauze, twist so it cannot fall out, dip in olive oil and insert it in the vagina. Alternatively mash it up into a paste to smear on or eat lots of it.

Recurring yeast infections can be very uncomfortable and if left untreated can cause serious health problems. Whether you choose a homeopathic treatment or you go for the medical remedies, make sure you follow the exact instructions provided by the specialists.

There are not many more irritating and uncomfortable conditions that women have to live with than yeast infections. Symptoms such as itching, burning, pain and swelling are hard to cope with day in day out. Women who turn to over the counter treatments find that their infection is reoccurring. They may treat it once and think it has gone, but it always seems to come back. This article talks about recurrent yeast infection.

In recurrent yeast infections the problem is that these treatments are just taking care of symptoms not the core problem. Also if you keep using a treatment the yeast learns how to fight it and become resistant to it so each time you use an over the counter treatment it works a little less successfully. When this happens it is not surprising that women become depressed about their situation.

The thing is all of that stress is completely unnecessary. Women should stop the vicious cycle of over the counter treatments and learn about natural methods. There is no point continuing using products that only treat symptoms, that stop being effective and ignore the root cause.

The fungus that leads to yeast infections is in everyone’s bodies but it is only when it overgrows and spreads that it is a problem. It is called Candida Albicans. This can happen if the immune system is weakened, if the pH changes, or if it is given moist and warm environments to grow in. Causes of this can be taking antibiotics, they kill all bacteria, good and bad, and it is the good bacteria that fight the fungus. Also diet with a lot of sugar in. Sugar is a food for it. Hormonal changes such as pregnancy and menstruation and even just stress.

It is important that you know why it happens you so you can better treat the root cause and stop it becoming a chronic problem. Natural remedies tend to be far more effective long term cures. When used properly in line with important life style changes and an improved diet the yeast infection is treated and the cycle is stopped.

An added benefit to natural options are that they do not have the side effects that pharmaceuticals have, they are just as effective (if not more so) take far less out of the money jar to get, and in actual fact when taken your overall health improves, not just the symptoms of an infection.

Yeast infection of the vagina is probably the most common type of yeast infection. However Candida can occur in both men and women and in other places on the body, such as the skin. Since vaginal is the more common though this is what this article will look at more closely. This article provides you yeast infection information.

Vaginal yeast infection can be caused by damage to the vulva or vaginal membranes or by environmental changes. Sometimes pH raises, it may be more warm and damp there than usual, perhaps you have eaten more sugar in your diet than before or you may be experiencing hormonal changes such as pregnancy. Normally the yeast is kept dormant by good bacteria already in our bodies but if for some reason that good bacteria has been affected then the yeast is not being held back and will grow.

The more common reported signs are itching, a white or gray thick discharge, general irritation in the vaginal area and rashes. You may also find you have back pains, nausea and fever. Although yeast infections can be passed during sexual intercourse they are not categorized as an STD as it is not sex that actually cause the infection, it’s just a way the yeast can be passed back and forth.

If you are diabetic you may find that you have a tendency to have yeast infections reoccur. This is because the yeast feeds on the sugars glucose and glycogen, which diabetics have a high amount of in their blood. Weak immune systems also mean the yeast infection is harder to get rid of and keep it gone.

My yeast infections information: first of all diabetic or not avoid sugar in your diet. There is no sense in feeding it! Secondly look for supplements to add to your diet to help fight the fungus. Some that can stop it happening again are vitamins B3, B5 and B6 as well as Colloidal silver as these boost the immune system, controlling the yeast fermentation. Others like amino acids L-Lysine and L-Threoine would do this as well. To get rid of oxidants in the body that encourage yeast multiplying take L-Methionine or L-Cysteine.

Since 80 per cent of women have or will suffer from yeast infections it is safe to say that millions of women know what it is like to have to suffer through the symptoms it brings. Embarrassing itching, pain, odor and discomfort are some of the many physical symptoms along with other general symptoms of mood swings, depression and so on. There are several over the counter treatments that promise to help but quite often women are disappointed, having spent a lot of money on treatments that are not working, or that work for a while until it comes back again.

Here I will help you with some ideas on how to prevent yeast infections from coming back. You should know that the cause of the yeast infection is a fungus called Candida albicans. There are actually over twenty species of microscopic fungi but this one is the more common. It is in our bodies all the time but sometimes the balance in our body is changed and an environment is created in which the fungi basically throws a party and invites all its like minded friends! This happens more so in damp and warm areas which is why yeast infections in the vagina are so common.

Here are four pieces of advice on how to prevent yeast infection.

Treatments
Mild white vinegar can be used as a remedy. Use 1 quart of water with one tablespoon of the vinegar and wash the area with this solution.
Garlic is another effective treatment as it is anti-fungal so fights the fungus that causes yeast infections. Eat it or insert it into the vagina. Fresh garlic not powder!

Prevention
Do not wear tight clothes – so ditch that Lycra now. They trap in heat and make you sweat so they create an ideal environment for the yeast. Loose, cotton clothing is best.

Chemicals in the infected area can make it worse. Tampons, hygiene sprays, condoms, soap, detergent, toilet paper, softener – these can all bring on an infection if they have dyes and perfumes and chemicals in them. Look for environment friendly, natural products. They are just as good.

Certain conditions are required for Candida albicans to grow and spread. When this happens it leads to burning, itching and strong irritation which are very hard to live with. If you have checked and found the symptoms you are suffering are from a yeast infection, there are some natural remedies that you can try.

First of all do remember that having a good hygiene routine is important. If you already have an infection do not use scented products on that area such as perfumes, scented towels or soaps as this will kill any good bacteria you have left, which are what fight the fungus. Keep the area clean and very importantly dry, using just soap and water and cotton towels to dry. When you get dressed put on loose cotton underwear, so the area can breath. Tight clothes keep it warm and damp which the fungus thrives in.

One natural remedy yeast infection with faster cure is to use apple cider vinegar in your water when you take a bath. Give yourself time to relax in the mixture and it will get the pH in the infected area to rise. With the increased acid levels the yeast will start to die as it prefers an alkaline home. This is particularly for a yeast infection of the vagina.

Fresh garlic is another natural remedy yeast infection. Peel a clove and turn it into a paste and apply it to the infection or insert a clove up the vagina. It can sting at first but if you can bare it for at least 20 minutes its anti-fungal properties will take effect.

Pro-biotic yogurt is constantly being advertised on television lately and for good reason. Sugar and fruit free yogurt with good bacteria can be used directly on the area and eaten. The good bacteria will take up the fight against the candida and will also soothe some of the symptoms such as the itching and burning.

Another anti-fungal item is tea tree oil; apply it twice to the infected region, once every 6 hours, and this could get rid of the problem. A gel with aloe vera in it will help with the same symptoms that yogurt takes care of, burning and itching.

Finally your diet can have a large impact on curing yeast infections and preventing them. Look it up!

If you are seeking some help on how to recognize main symptoms of a yeast infection, this is the place to be. Though there are quite a few symptoms this article will look at four of the main ones. Sadly 90 per cent of women can or have suffered from illnesses related to Candida so you are surely not alone. It is just that most sufferers are not aware there is a connection between their symptom and Candida or Chronic yeast infections.

Four of the common symptoms of a yeast infection:
1. Health Issues – Mental and Emotional
This can take on a number of appearances/feelings varying greatly from each person. A lot of people have said that once they have had their Candida problem resolved permanently they have felt so much better in their general happiness and well being, less tense and stressed. The depression lifts or the brain fog has cleared and everything is clear again.

2. Breathing
It has been found that there are links between Candida and respiratory ailments like asthma or chronic congestion. Candida affects the immune system so its impact is broad and includes your respiration.

3. Skin
There are several skin conditions that are affected by Candida, a few include hives, acne, eczema, psoriasis and rashes. There are ointments and supplements to help with these skin symptoms of a yeast infection but if you get rid of the Candida you will be amazed at the direct impact on those skin problems.

4. Digestion
When a person visits their doctor complaining of digestive problems, the diagnosis is quite often IBS. But Candida is also having an effect here. It causes your body to have some inflammation from the by products it creates. Acetaldehyde is one of these by products and can cause a lot of problems unless the Candida is taken care of. For example one thing that this Acetaldehyde can cause is an over night food allergy!
With more awareness of the symptoms and why they are happening you are better able to see why taking steps to bring your body back into balance and eradicate the excess candida is so important to your over all health.

Are you struggling to keep your baby’s bottom clear of a diaper rash? There are creams that are designed to treat them, and the rash will normally clear up after 3 or 4 days but if that is not working maybe it is not diaper rash. Maybe it is a yeast infection. There are several things you can do to soothe his or her poor bottom and get rid of the infection.

Firstly it is very important that you make sure you change the diaper regularly. Yeast loves wet and warm areas, and if the baby is sitting in a wet diaper, the yeast is thriving. Occasionally let your baby kick free after taking off a soiled diaper so that it airs out down there. Check that you are not doing them up too tight and trapping in too much heat.

Breast feeding is the best way to feed your baby. But if you are breast feeding, there are some things to watch out for. If you are taking antibiotics while breastfeeding, this can lead to the yeast infection in babies. The prescription is killing the good bacteria (in your body as well as the baby’s via the milk). If you have a yeast infection you may need to consider stopping until you have it cleared up as it can be passed on and this could lead to Thrush. (oral yeast infection).

There are antifungal creams out there that can be used on babies safely. They have an ingredient called miconazole which can deal with the yeast infection if it is only a mild case of it. If the infection persists stop using the cream straight away as your baby may be allergic. There are natural remedies that are a lot safer that you can research about, that do not have the risk of side effects or allergies. It is probably best to consult your child’s doctor for any treatment you try, just in case.

Your baby may be in a lot of discomfort and be upset and crying a lot. Although you may not expect a yeast infection, babies can be affected by it too. It is important that you act as quickly as you can to help them.

Yeast infections happen when there is too much Candida yeast in your body and not enough good bacteria that kills it. Candida is a micro organism that is in your body naturally. Having the organism is not an issue, it is only a problem when it is able to grow and multiply out of control. The most common yeast infection occurs in the vagina though men can get it on the penis too.

The symptoms of yeast infections once the yeast has spread are uncomfortable and sometimes painful. The vulva can become swollen, red and sore to the touch. There is often a burning feeling and nearly always an itching. The pain is there when urinating and during sexual intercourse. Along with all this there can be a discharge from the vagina that is not normal. It is white to yellow and varies in consistency from lumpy to thick. An odor is sometimes present, though this varies from patient to patient, that has a yeasty smell like bread or beer.

Yeast infections happen when your body has a change in balance and you no longer have any good bacteria to fight the Candida and keep it under control. There are some drugs that can cause this for example antibiotics are designed to fight and kill bacteria. But unfortunately they kill all bacteria, so the good ones get it.

Other possible causes of yeast infections are things like douching. Douching upsets the balance and washes away things that the vagina uses to self clean thus opening up the vagina to possible infections. There are also certain foods that can make you more likely to get it. Avoid sugars, yeast, starches and alcohol.
It is vital to have a good personal hygiene routine keeping the area clean and dry. The yeast loves wet, warm and dark places. Clothing can cause it if it is too tight and the material does not allow the skin to breathe. So you see it is important to know these things in order to avoid the infection.

In conclusion, these are the most frequent causes of yeast infections; If you know what your body may be doing to cause them, and what the environment needs to be in order to prevent them you are more likely to prevent Candida multiplying (that leads to yeast infections).

Unfortunately, there are many women who have the misfortune to have reoccurring yeast infections. This problem is known as a chronic yeast infection. Men can also get yeast infections passed from their sexual partner, sometimes with symptoms and sometimes without. For women they experience various uncomfortable and painful symptoms such as itching, swelling, redness, odor and vaginal discharge. The discharge is white or a pale yellow, usually odorless and has a cottage cheese like consistency. Male symptoms are a rash on the head of the penis and itching. Other not so common symptoms are bad breathe, fatigue, headaches, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, mood swings, stomach pains and dizziness.

But what causes them? There are a number of situations that can cause chronic yeast infections. Often the symptoms are treated but the root cause has not been. Diabetes can cause it as this is an illness all about sugar, and excessive amounts of sugar in your diet encourages the infection to come back, as it feeds on it. Too much alcohol and carbohydrates are also reasons for chronic yeast infections. If your clothing is always tight, particularly your underwear, this gives the fungus the perfect dark, moist environment in which to grow. Not cleaning the area and drying it carefully, sores and douching can all also be contributing factors.

Obviously should you have a yeast infection, you want to know how to deal with it effectively. Diabetics need to make sure their glucose levels are under control. Avoid wearing wet suits, or bathing suits for a long time. Switch to loose cotton underwear. There are anti-fungal items that can help fight it. You may need to switch treatments until you find one that works as all bodies are different and there are various yeast strains. One prescribed treatment that works is Nystatin and it is one of the few with less side effects.

Natural treatments are also out there that work. Garlic is anti fungal and can be eaten or fresh cloves can be inserted directly into the vagina. Grapefruit seed extract can be diluted in water, as well as olive leaf extract. Avoid processed foods such as white flour, white rice, white bread and white pasta. Cut out mushrooms and vinegar.

Using these tips you can easily manage a chronic yeast infection; don’t forget – the key is to go for the cause and not the symptoms.
