Yeast infections can affect various areas of the body, superficial candidiasis means on the surface of the body not inside, cutaneous means on the skin and a mucosal yeast infection means it affects one or more of the mucous membranes such as the mouth, intestines, or vagina. The most common form of yeast infection is mucosal vaginal yeast infections, but they are not limited to just women or just that area. What some people do not realize until they hear it from a proper diagnosis from their doctor is that there are two types of mucosal yeast infections, red form and white form.

Red form candida means that it is not growing or multiplying it is burrowing and invading. It gets into epithelial cells and releases chemicals that cause redness, inflammation and burning symptoms. Anti-fungal treatments find it very difficult to reach and your body is not able to fight it. Examples of this type of mucosal yeast infections are vulvodynia, or denture stomatitis.

Mucosal yeast infection means it affects one or more of the mucous parts of your body such as the mouth, the intestines or the vagina. There are two types of mucosal candidiasis though some doctors may not distinguish between the two when they diagnose you. There is the red form where the candida does not grow but invades. Then there is the white form of mucosal yeast infection also called acute pseudomembranous candidiasis.

Unlike the red form that burrows into epithelial cells, the white form kills them with the toxins it releases on tissue surfaces. Most texts and articles that talk about vaginal, intestinal or oral yeast infections are talking about the white form not the red. Once the candida has killed the tissue it turns white in color and breaks off making a false membrane.

Regular douching is a practice that woman should stop. The vagina is self cleaning, all you need to do is take care of the outer part, using a gentle soap and water. Regular douching kills the good bacteria of the vagina and upset the balance and actually causes yeast infections. However it can be done as a treatment, though you should talk to your doctor first.

Here are a few herbal recipes for douches.

Mix four tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in bath water and soak in it for fifteen to twenty minutes once or twice a day for a few days until symptoms have gone.

Mix forty drops of Echinacea, forty drops of calendula essence and forty drops of goldenseal essence with one pint of water and then add two tablespoons of aloe vera essence. This will ease inflammation and soothe irritated vaginal tissues. These herbs can be used apart but are more effective when used together.

Mix together ½ an ounce of anti yeast tea with 1 tablespoon of acidophilus culture or ¼ cup plain live yogurt. Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 small drop of tea tree oil. Steep in a quart of water for an hour and then strain. Allow to cool. Do every few days unless the infection is more severe in which case do daily.

Mix together Echinacea essence with goldenseal essence and then take twenty drops of this mix and add it to a pint of water. Add 6 drops of tea tree oil and a tablespoon of calendula tincture.

A bolus is an old fashioned way to treat different ailments and in this example the herbal bolus here is much like a vaginal suppository. Here is a recipe for a bolus that uses various anti-fungal herbs. Remember as with any suppository there is probably going to be some leaking after inserting the bolus into the vaginal canal, as it starts to melt. Use pads to protect your clothing and underwear.

You will need:

1 cup of coconut oil

a few drops of tea tree oil

1 part pau d’arco powder

1 part black walnut hull powder

1 part finely ground myrrh powder

3 parts slippery elm powder

1.2 parts goldenseal powder

Make sure all the herbs are a fine powder, run then through a grinder if you need to.

In a saucepan over a low heat melt the coconut oil. When it is melted remove from heat and stir in the herbs until the consistency is a thick paste.

Add in the tea tree oil.

Roll the boluses so they are the shape and size of your pinky finger. Allow to cool.

Each night insert a bolus into the vagina until clear of the infection.

One of the main concerns that a woman is confronted with when she suspect she has a vaginal yeast infection is that uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing nature of having to be examined by your doctor. But it is important to get a proper diagnosis to ensure you are treating the right thing. Two thirds of women think they have a yeast infection when they self diagnose themselves based on just symptoms, but they are wrong. They have something else that presents with the same or similar symptoms such as Bacterial Vaginosis. Using anti-fungal treatments on a bacteria infection is a total waste of time.

There are a couple of home test you can do if you want to feel more confident about what you are going to the doctors to talk about and one of those things when testing for a yeast infection is a vaginal pH test.

What is pH?

pH refers to the acidity of something, there is a pH scale that ranges from one to fourteen, one being very acidic, 14 being very alkaline and 7 being neutral. Though the human body in general is around the neutral area, a healthy vagina is actually meant to be slightly acidic. If you can test the pH of the vagina you can get an idea of what may be wrong.

When testing for a yeast infection how does a pH kit work?

You can get a pH kit from your pharmacy and use it at home to test the pH of your vagina. Remember this is not a kit that will tell you yes you have a yeast infection or yes you have bacterial vaginosis etc. It just tells you what the pH of the vagina is. But added to the symptoms you are suffering the results can help you evaluate the possibility of what infections you may have.

A vaginal pH test cannot help with identifying HIV, herpes, gonorrhea, chlamydia, group B streptococcus or syphilis. You simply hold a piece of pH paper to the wall of your vagina for a few seconds so that your vaginal excretions touch it. In the kit is a chart with colors on it that correspond to pH levels. You compare the color your paper is to the colors on the chart and find the closest matching. This gives you a pH number.

How accurate are pH tests?

Home pH tests are very similar to the one your doctor uses when he looks at the pH of your vagina as part of his or her examination. When testing for a yeast infection by using a pH test it is another piece of information you can offer them when you visit them for a proper check up. Remember that even if there are changes in your pH this is not enough to indicate something is wrong. You doctor adds together your symptoms, medical history, a physical exam, pH test plus examining a swab under a microscope, and other possible tests.

Testing for a yeast infection pH results

Ironically when you are testing for a yeast infection you should expect negative results. If you pH is not within the normal range of a healthy vagina (3.8 to 4.5) it is not a yeast infection, but something else like B.V. B.V presents in a pH that is above normal. Negative tests indicate your symptoms could be due to something causing irritation, or a yeast infection, as yeast prefers a pH that is slightly acidic, as a healthy vagina is!

About the Vagisil screening kit, Donnica L. Moore, MD, President, Sapphire Women’s Health Group says,

“This kit is a significant step in empowering women to better understand their vaginal health…As it happens, many women don’t turn to their doctors either because they’re embarrassed to talk about their condition, because they think they know what the problem is, or because they want immediate relief. Using this kit can help women feel more confident when telling their gynecologists about their symptoms and also more confident that they are seeking the right treatment.”

Use with yeast infections

As well as using gentian violet tampons treatment for candida, it is commonly used by breast feeding mothers when they have a breast infection and their baby has Thrush (oral yeast infection). It has a long history of safe use, and though messy is very effective at treating any form of yeast infection.

Finding gentian violet

Though it is not as popular as it used to be some pharmacies still carry it. Look in the iodine section of the pharmacy or ask someone that works there. If they do not carry it they can order it for you. You want 1 per cent concentration, and then mix that with either alcohol or glycerin. Only a small amount needs to be used at a time.

Using Gentian violet tampons treatment for candida

To make gentian violet tampons treatment for candida get some 1% gentian violet with water solution and mix with alcohol or glycerin. Then take a tampon and dip it into the mix and insert it into the vagina and leave for at least 30 minutes up to 3 to 4 hours. Remember this is a very messy though effective alternative treatment for a vaginal yeast infection. Have clothing far away and use thick pads to protect your underwear. Even so it is a good idea to use older underwear you do not mind getting stained just in case.

You can also use a swab to wipe around the outer parts of the vagina (the vulva including the labia and lips) where you may have symptoms such as redness, itching, burning and inflammation. It will fight the candida overgrowth there too, and will soothe you. Do a couple of times a day for relief from symptoms, though quite often women experience results after just one treatment.

Genapax

These are ready made gentian violet tampons treatment for candida that can be found in some pharmacies and even some health food stores. Genapax do a tampon formulation already made, each tampon has 5mg of gentian violet. Insert into the vagina once or twice a day for one to two weeks. There is still the mess problem so be prepared.

Warnings

Not all species or strains of candida respond to gentian violet so if it does not work try another treatment.

If you have ever had an allergic reaction to gentian violet do not use.

Follow directions carefully.

Complete the whole course of treatment – even if you have relief from symptoms after one treatment finish the one or two week course.

Do not use regular tampons while using gentian violet tampons treatment for candida as they will soak up the medication in the vagina. If you start your period use sanitary pads.

Usual dose is 5mg (one tampon) twice a day for 12 days.

Do not douche.

If you feel any burning, pain, irritation that was not there before the use of gentian violet tampons treatment for candida see you doctor.

No no no! Douching is actually a cause of vaginal yeast infections and unless a doctor specifically advices you to do it for a limited period of time you should not douche at all, ever. Douching upsets the balance of micro-organisms in the vagina, it can lead to good bacteria being killed and it is the good bacteria that control the candida growth and stop it from overgrowing into a yeast infection. Douching is something your grandmother or mother may have done and thinks its okay to do, but today we understand more how the balance of the vagina is so important.

Also the fact is the vagina is self cleaning, it does not need water being squirted up there, it takes care of itself! All you need to do is clean the outer genitalia using mild and unscented products, and make sure you dry the area thoroughly after. Douching should be made a thing of the past!

Garlic is a potent natural healer, containing anti-fungal properties which is why it is effective against yeast infections, but also having anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties too which is why it has a wide range of medical uses.

Firstly when using garlic you have the option to use one of the garlic supplements or products that are on the market, or using the real thing. The only way to know what works for you is to try these things, as some people have great success and others do not, everyone is different. If you are looking at how to use raw garlic to treat your yeast infection there are a few ways you can use it.

Peel a clove, wrap it in cheesecloth or gauze and insert it up the vagina, making sure a corner is hanging down enough so that you can reach in and remove it. Nicking the clove releases more of the juices and that is where the healing agent is, but it is very strong and can cause burning if you do. Many women have success without needing to nick the clove.

Mash up a clove until it forms a paste that you use like a cream. If there are breaks in the skin this will burn a little too.

Eat more raw garlic, sprinkle it on your salads, or even swallow a clove with water. This gives you intestinal benefit.

The vaginal ecosystem can be very much negatively affected by changes in pH making it more sensitive to irritation, odor and infections such as yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis. Dr Machelle Seibel, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Massachusetts and founder of HealthRock, which is about educating women about health issues says,

“The vaginal ecosystem is delicate and complicated. Small, common triggers can elevate pH and cause dramatic changes to the vaginal flora, throwing the entire system out of balance which can make women much more susceptible to vaginal infection.”

Bacterial vaginosis and vaginal yeast infections are often confused because they have very similar symptoms, itching, soreness, inflammation. However BV is a bacterial infection and so is treated with antibiotics whereas a yeast infection needs to be treated with anti-fungals. The problem with BV is that as well as increasing the chances of premature birth, urinary tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease and even STDs its treatment can actually cause a yeast infection, as the antibiotics kill all bacteria, including the good kind that keep the candida fungus, the cause if yeast infections, under control.

Dr Seibel explains that women can have pH triggers that lead to various types of vaginal infection such as,

Menstruation and tampons – A normal vaginal pH is between 3.5 to 4.5. Blood is 7,4, so having the blood held there by the tampon can be a trigger.

Medications – birth control pills, and antihistamines as well as others can change hormone levels and the pH.

Sex – Semen has a pH of 7.1 to 8 so that can elevate the vagina’s pH.

Hormonal times – Menopause, pregnancy, period, are all times when a woman’s hormones are changing which alter the pH.

Douching – Water has a pH of 7 and can also cause damage to the natural flora of the vagina. Perfumes and chemicals used on the vagina can also cause unbalance.

Dr Seibal continues,

“We are learning how to control pH in order to help women maintain vaginal health and avoid infections like bacterial vaginosis. By making sure to keep the vaginal environment at a pH of 4.7 or lower, especially during these trigger times, women reduce the risk of infection and prevent unnecessary irritation and discomfort.”

http://www.news-medical.net/news/20100527/Common-triggers-can-elevate-pH-and-make-women-more-susceptible-to-vaginal-infection.aspx?page=2

The vagina has a natural balance of flora that includes small amounts of a fungus Candida, and good bacteria that keep that fungus at low levels. The environment is naturally quite acidic and it is self cleaning. If something happens to change these things it can give the Candida an opportunity to overgrow. For example perfumed products or chemicals can cause irritation and can change the acidity level making it ideal for the fungus to grow in.

There are things women can do to look after the area properly, such as avoiding using perfumes and chemicals there, avoiding douching, eating a healthy diet, quitting smoking, allowing the area to get some air, changing tampons or pads frequently during menstruation. There are also natural products that help you support the balance of the vagina or to help restore balance if there has been an infection. Vagi-Soothe is one such product.

What is Vagi-Soothe?

Vagi-Soothe is to help with the relief of symptoms caused by a yeast infection. These include burning, discomfort and itching. It is also designed to reduce the white cottage cheese like discharge and the yeasty odor. It has no harmful side effects and is 100% natural. The homeopathic ingredients in Vagi-Soothe are all known by alternative practitioners to help with the delicate membrane and tissue and to soothe irritated skin.

How to take Vagi-Soothe

Vagi-Soothe is taken internally. In the bottle is a concentrated tincture formula that is easy to ingest and has no additives or preservatives. It is even meant to be safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women though you should still consult a doctor before using it. It is FDA approved. Just hold the bottle upside down and allow 10 drops to fall into your mouth and swallow. Or you can drop 10 drops into a quarter glass of water and slowly sip it. Repeat between 3 to 5 times a day until symptoms have subsided. Remember Vagi-Soothe is there to take care of your symptoms, not cure your infection, so you still need to find the root of the problem and treat the infection.

What is in Vagi-Soothe?

A bottle of Vagi-Soothe lasts about 30 days. Remember all the ingredients in Vagi-Soothe are homeopathic. They are:

Sepia (6C) – Used for gynecological issues and acts on the vagina, uterus and ovaries.

Merc sol (30C) – Used by alternative practitioners to promote ‘normal’ odor in excretions from the body.

Kreosotum (12C) – For the burning symptoms and the discharge. Often used by homeopathic practitioners to deal with vaginal health problems.

Citricidal Extract – an inactive ingredient.

Calc carb (6C) – calcium source used to help with acidity and alkalinity levels in the body.

Lycopodium (12C) – Soothes redness, itching, irritation and dryness around the vagina.

There is no gluten so Vagi-Soothe can be used by vegans and there are no colorants, artificial flavors, or preservatives added either.

How long does Vagi-Soothe take to work?

Vagi-Soothe starts working at the first dose as its tincture formula is designed for quick absorption into the body. How long before you experience relief differs from one woman to the next. Some get instant relief and others see results in 3 weeks or so. If you do not get relief straight away keep taking it as directed and be patient. If you are not happy with the product the makers of Vagi-Soothe offer a one year money back guarantee.

Yeast infections are a common problem, especially for women though certainly not only for women. However the female yeast infection of the vagina is the most common form of the infection because it is a perfect breeding ground for the fungus that causes a yeast infection, Candida Albicans. When there is an imbalance between the good bacteria that control the growth of the fungus and the Candida, and the latter is able to over grow a yeast infection is the result. Imbalance of the flora of the vagina can be caused by a number of things, antibiotics, chemicals, lifestyle, diet, hormones, diabetes. Symptoms vary from woman to woman but include itching, discharge, irritation, burning and swelling.

What is a yeast infection suppository?

A yeast infection suppository is a form of treatment that is inserted into the vagina where the medication is slowly released where it is needed. There are several types of yeast infection suppository, medicated that you can get over the counter at a pharmacy, natural products that can be bought at your local health store or some at a pharmacy, and then there is the make it yourself yeast infection suppository. This form of treatment is for mild to moderate cases. If you have a more severe or systemic yeast infection you will need oral, prescription medication.

What does a yeast infection suppository look like?

There are different types so they do not all look the same. Usually a woman would use it at night due the potential leaking that can occur. Some brands pre-fill an applicator for you and you just have to insert it, some supply an applicator and you have to fill it. Some can be inserted with just your fingers. They are usually smaller than a tampon, no bigger than an inch and no wider than half an inch. Sometimes it is a cream being pushed up the there, sometimes gelatin has been used to harden that cream into a bullet shape, sometimes a capsule.

What does a conventional yeast infection suppository contain?

They are all anti-fungal drugs though different brands have different active ingredients. That is why one over the counter treatment may not be successful for you but another is. Typical drugs include miconazole, clotrimazole and tioconazole.

What does a natural yeast infection suppository contain?

Natural ingredients for a yeast infection that may be in a natural suppository you buy are tea tree oil, garlic, boric acid or lactobacillus. Homeopathic suppositories will have a selection of herbs or oils that are anti-fungal.

Some examples of natural suppositories:

Boric acid suppositories

There are several companies that use boric acid as their main component in alternative yeast infection treatments. Yeast Arrest is an example of boric acid suppositories. Also in them are oregon, grape root and calendula. You should not try making your own boric acid yeast infection suppository though as it is a toxic substance and needs to be treated with care. Pregnant women and children should not use it. Do not take boric acid orally and keep it away from open wounds.

Boric acid is effective for some women though so should not be discounted. The boric acid yeast infection suppository will fight the fungus and offer symptom relief too. Treatment lasts for between 5 to 10 days depending on which ones you get. To use them wash your hands first then take out the suppository. You may want to moisten the tip of the suppository, and then push it gently but firmly into the vagina. Push it in deep enough so it is not going to slip back out. Close your legs and stay still for a few minutes then wash your hands again.

Tea Tree Yeast infection suppository

Tea tree oil is often used as a natural way to treat yeast infections and also comes in the form of a suppository. It will help control the candida while also stopping the spread of the infection, and soothing the inflammation and itching.

Make your own garlic yeast infection suppository

Get a clove of garlic and peel it.

Wrap it in cheesecloth or gauze.

Insert it into the vagina making sure you will be able to remove it later on.

If you need to make it easier to insert dip the wrapped garlic in some herbal oil.

Leave it in for three to five hours then remove and insert new one.

Repeat for three to five days until infection has gone.

The short and quick answer is yes it can do. However in this article we will look at what a yeast infection is to better understand how and why does douching cause a vaginal yeast infection, what is meant by douching, and when if ever is it okay to use douching to clean the vaginal area.

What is a yeast infection?

A yeast infection is caused by a fungus called Candida albicans. This fungus resides on mammals including many humans, but is kept at low levels usually by the good bacteria also there. If allowed to grow over those acceptable levels a yeast infection can be the result. Areas that are damp, warm and dark are particularly susceptible such as the vagina. Common symptoms women may suffer are itching, burning when urinating, redness, irritation, inflammation, pain when having intercourse because you are too dry, a white lumpy discharge.

What is douching?

The word ‘douche’ is French for wash or soak. Douching is the act of squirting water or cleansing products in and up the vagina (birth canal) to clean it. Women can make their own douche solutions or there are prepacked solutions that can be bought. It is a practice that is now very much not recommended by doctors for several reasons. First of all the vagina is self cleaning, your body already has a way of cleaning the vagina itself, all you need to do is wash there when you bath or shower with a cloth. Secondly douching disrupts the balance in the vagina and can cause infections.

If douching does cause a vaginal yeast infection why do women do it?

Women mistakenly believe they are cleaner if they douche. Some women do so after sex hoping to prevent pregnancy, some believe it will prevent STDs, some do so during their menstruation each month and some do not believe their vagina should have an odor and so douche to to prevent odors. It is a very common practice unfortunately, in America alone between 20% to 40% of women aged 15 to 44 douche regularly, for many of them this means weekly at least.

Douching does not get rid of a bad smell, it will just hide it for a few days and then it will return probably worse than before. If you have a bad smell you need to see your doctor as it may be a symptom of a vaginal infection. Douching will not prevent a pregnancy (in fact it helps the sperm by pushing it up) and nor will it prevent any STD.

How does douching cause a vaginal yeast infection?

An overgrowth of the fungus can occur for a number of reasons and douching is one of them. In the vagina there is a balance of organisms, healthy bacteria and other flora, including a small amount of yeast. The good bacteria and the acidity of the vagina when it is healthy keeps the fungus numbers low so that an infection does not occur. Douching disrupts this balance and can kill the bacteria. It can lead to inflammation and the imbalance can provide the opportunity the fungus needs to multiply leading to a vaginal yeast infection. There are no health benefits to douching but there are unwanted results such as infection. Also it is possible the act of douching can just spread the infection internally into the woman’s uterus, Fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

Now I know douching does cause a vaginal yeast infection what other dangers are there?

There is evidence from research that women who douche suffer from more health issues with their vagina than women who do not. These health issues include irritation, bacterial vaginosis, STDs and pelvic inflammatory disease. These can also have an affect on a pregnancy as they can cause problems for the baby, premature birth, labor problems. Though the research is limited there has also been a suggestion that women who douche regularly are actually going to find it more difficult to get pregnant. It also can make it more likely for an eptopic pregnancy to occur, where the fertilized egg attaches to the Fallopian tube instead of the uterus. This can be a life threatening condition for a woman if it is not dealt with, and can then make it harder to get pregnant in the future.

Douching does cause a vaginal yeast infection – so how should the vagina be cleaned?

Let the vaginal canal take care of itself – it makes a mucous that cleans itself. It will clean away any discharge, blood or semen with this mucous. Also remember a healthy vagina may have a slight musky odor, this is natural. All you need to do is clean the outside of the vagina using water and possibly a mild unscented soap. Do not use scented products like tampons, pads, sprays or powders as these can cause irritation and lead to an infection.

When is it okay to douche?

There are rare circumstances where your doctor may suggest you douche for a limited time only. Follow their instructions carefully and only do it for the time they specify.

Getting a yeast infection is not at all an automatic sign that you are an unclean person and have poor hygiene standards. There are after all several causing factors that can trigger an overgrowth of the fungus Candida Albicans that leads to a yeast infection. But there is a link between hygiene and yeast infections, poor hygiene can be a trigger or a reason for a yeast infection to be prolonged. Also true is the fact that what you may consider to be ‘good’ hygiene practices can also trigger a yeast infection, or make an existing condition worse.

This article looks in more detail at how hygiene and yeast infections are linked, and what you can do to ensure you minimize your chances of getting an infection, or if you have an existing one, what you can do to maximize your treatment results. In particular when referring to a yeast infection in this article we are thinking of the vaginal infection, though advise here can be used for any form of yeast infection, for men, women and babies.

What is a yeast infection

In order to understand how hygiene and yeast infections are linked you need to know what a yeast infection actually is. On many of us is a fungus called Candida Albicans. Its growth is kept under control by helpful bacteria also living in our bodies and so stays dormant and harmless. But if something upsets that balance, perhaps alters the pH of the vagina, kills natural flora, then the fungus grabs the opportunity presented to it, and grows. It grows quickly and once numbers are more than a body should have it leads to a yeast infection. Yeast infections are recognizable by the symptoms of redness, itching, inflammation, irritation, a possible thick cheesy discharge, pain when having sex and pain when urinating. Three quarters of women will have to deal with at least one yeast infection in their lives, though self diagnosis is unwise, since these symptoms can also be signs of other vaginal infections or even STDs.

Poor hygiene and yeast infections

If you are not cleaning regularly you are allowing the natural environment of the vagina to change. As well as bad bacteria being a problem it is likely the area is always moist and warm which creates the perfect condition for the fungus to breed. It is important that as well as cleaning yourself regularly, you also dry yourself properly afterwards. Change out of dirty clothing as often as is needed, in particular change underwear if it becomes damp.

‘Good’ hygiene and yeast infections

Scented soaps – This includes bubble baths, shower gels and so on. They may smell nice but the perfume and dye chemicals in them upsets the natural balance of the vagina’s flora. Use unscented and gentle soaps for cleaning when you are in the shower or bath.

Scented tampons and other feminine products – any kind of perfumed product will just aggravate any existing condition, or could upset the vagina’s balance enough to cause an infection.

Laundry detergent – needs to be the sensitive kind, nothing with harsh strong chemicals.

Douching – A very bad idea, and is a practice women need to stop. You are upsetting the balance, killing good bacteria and making things a lot worse. The vagina is self-cleaning, all that is needed is to shower or bathe regularly, and to dry properly afterwards. There is meant to be a natural discharge as this helps protect the area from bacteria that may be harmful.

It is hard as a woman to know what the right thing to do is sometimes. Adverts and shops are stocked full with these products that suggest to us we would be cleaner and healthier if we use them. But it is better for your health and your wallet if you overcome this stereotype and false advertising. That you need these items in order to be clean is a complete myth. Here are a few tips to get you on your way to a good hygiene routine.

When washing the vagina use mild soap or even just water and just wash the external part.

Remember to dry well after washing or after anything that gets you wet, such as swimming or a workout.

When using the toilet make sure you wipe front to back so that you do not wipe bacteria into the vagina.

Wear cotton underwear as it allows the skin to breathe, wear loose clothing more often so that you keep the area drier.

There are many micro-organisms that live on the human body, and though it may be a little odd thinking of all those bacteria on you, in fact may of them we need. There are good bacteria for example that control the growth of the fungus that if left unchecked causes a yeast infection. Changes in the body either hormonal or external actions, then can affect the balance. For example the use of antibiotics can trigger an infection because they kill the good bacteria as well as the bad. When those good bacteria are depleted they cannot do their job and harmful organisms like the yeast multiply and cause a female yeast infection.

There are a lot of methods to get rid of the yeast infection. The way you dress, the parfumes and creams you use, the candida cures you use and much more other little details.
A female yeast infection of the vagina causes a white discharge and itching. As the yeast grows in numbers it produces waste and this causes the skin to irritate leading to the burning and itching. As soon as that happens you should start using panty liners and change them often, and make sure the vagina is kept clean and dry (since the yeast thrives when it is moist and warm). Breathable materials like cotton for underwear are a good idea.

The pH balance of the vagina should be 4.5 so anything that changes that can trigger an infection. Harsh detergents, perfumed sprays or products can all irritate the vagina and upset the balance, both can lead to an infection. While that imbalance continues so will the yeast infection. You need to rebalance your body and replace the good bacteria. Cranberry juice and sauces are great natural candida cures. Yogurt and lactobacilli supplements will help with the good bacteria.

You also need to watch you do not pass it on to your partner during sex. Men can get it too and unprotected sex can be a reason for a recurring infection. If you have one your partner should get themselves checked out. If you cure yourself but your partner has it, he can just pass it back to you again.

A yeast infection is an overgrowth of fungus. This fungus is one of the many micro-organisms that live on the body and when it is monitored by the good bacteria and a healthy immune system, it is harmless. But if those control factors are weakened or destroyed the fungus will grow very quickly and a yeast infection will happen. Yeast infections will affect a person where it is warm and damp, places like under folds of skin in the obese, the vagina for women, the penis for men, under arms, the anus, and the mouth. You can also get internal intestinal yeast infection which in rare severe case can become a systemic infection that can cause a lot of harm to the body and can even be fatal.

When looking at sex yeast infection facts we are mainly concerned with oral yeast infections (Thrush) or genital yeast infections. Here are some sex yeast infection facts to consider:

A yeast infection is not classed as an STI or STD but it can be passed on during sexual intercourse and during oral sex.

Men can get yeast infections too so if having unprotected sex with a female partner who has a vaginal yeast infection, it is possible, though the odds are low, to get a penile yeast infection. 12 to 15% of men get a penile yeast infection this way. If both do not get treated properly this can become a cycle of reinfecting each other.

Throat yeast infection is not a common form, but one of its causes is oral sex with an infected partner. If a woman gives a man oral sex and he has a penile yeast infection, or a man gives a woman oral sex and she has a vaginal yeast infection, they can get either or both Thrush and a throat yeast infection.

Sometimes if not using lubricant and a woman is too dry when having sex and some damage is done to the vaginal tissue this can allow an infection to occur.

Some condoms come with lubricants and or spermicides that can actually upset the chemical balance in the vagina and cause or aggravate a yeast infection.

Birth control pills can be a causing factor in yeast infections in women as they change the hormonal balance.

The ideal solution is to abstain from any sexual act until you have successfully treated your infection, or until your partner has successfully treated themselves.

Of course it is possible that the symptoms you are observing is actually an STD and not yeast infection. It is very common for this mistake to be made when people self diagnose – about 2/3 of people incorrectly believe they have a yeast infection when it is something else. Visit your doctor for their professional opinion to talk over any sex yeast infection facts that you may have questions about and to discuss treatment options.

Yeast infection otherwise known as candidiasis is a fungal infection that many women are affected by today all around the world, not just the western world. It comes in different forms and seriousness, vaginitis being the most common, and systemic being the more severe. Vaginal yeast infection can be treated with topical medications whereas systemic yeast infection can actually be life threatening. It is therefore vital that people know what to do if they get a yeast infection so that it does not get left untreated and become something a lot more serious.

Cure a Yeast Infection Naturally

The problem with topical creams is that the fungus can adapt to them and become resilient, making then totally ineffective as a treatment. This then leads to a recurring infection with each instance becoming more severe. That is why some people now believe that the best way to cure a yeast infection is naturally. One such natural treatment is a solution of white vinegar and water. One tablespoon in a quart of water and mix and then use a cloth to apply it to the affected region. Apple cider vinegar can also be used instead of white vinegar.

If your underwear is always damp this can make things worse as the yeast loves its environment to be moist and warm. Get out of wet or damp clothing and clean and dry properly. Wear cotton or breathable material and avoid tight fitting clothing that just makes you sweat and worsens the condition.

A yeast infection can be passed on during sex and even if you try using protection there are some lubricants and spermicides that will help the yeast grow. Therefore try to abstain from sex until the infection is successfully treated. If you have had unprotected sex while infected make sure your partner also gets treated, or they will just pass it back to you and then you have a nasty cycle on your hands.
