PEV7 has been designed with these women in mind to offer them relief and hope. Animal models have shown it to be effective at clearing up an existing infection and preventing further recurrences. Phase I results should be out later in the year.

CEO Thomas Stauffer says,

“Subunit virosome-based vaccines have already been clinically validated in a number of studies, proving to hit the “sweet spot” of enhanced tolerability combined with efficacy. They are also commercially validated through their use in two marketed products. Finally, manufacturing is a semi-synthetic process that is easy to scale up. With VVC and our other vaccine candidates PEV4 for RSV and PEV8 for influenza, we aim to demonstrate the potential high-reward applications of the virosome platform to both established and new players in the growing vaccine market.”

Recurring yeast infection means a woman suffers four or more times a year. It affects women of childbearing age and is currently for difficult to control with the existing treatments on the market. Dr William Ledger, Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York explains,

“The women who suffer from VVC are prone to it mostly because of their genetics, and it can have a significant effect on their quality of life, affecting not just their physical condition but their psychological state…Over-the-counter treatments work on the short term problem but there’s nothing to stop it coming back. If the vaccine works it will be a miracle to the women who suffer.”

Phase I will be made up of 48 women who have not previously had a vaginal yeast infection. They will be given three doses, one a month for three months, either via an injection in the arm or through a pessary that is placed into the vagina three times a month also for three months.

Before you treat an illness you should know what it is and why it is happening to you. It will help prevent it from happening again. A yeast infection occurs when their is an imbalance in the body of micro organisms called Candida Albicans that are naturally in our bodies. They live on our skin, in our intestines, mouth and genital area. When the body looses its good bacteria for whatever reason the fungus has a chance to grow as it is the good bacteria that had kept them under control.

Some of the reasons for an imbalance that leads to a yeast infection include:
1.	Lowered immune system (from long term drugs use, HIV or other sicknesses)
2.	Diabetes (high sugar levels in the blood are bad as the yeast feeds on the sugar.)
3.	A carbohydrate rich diet (carbs turn to sugars.)
4.	Antibiotics use (antibiotics kill all bacteria, good and bad.)
5.	Stress
6.	Sex with an infected partner (though not classed as an STD the yeast can be passed on during sex.)
7.	Using a spermicidal lubricant like Nonoxynol-9

It is vital that whatever you choose to treat yourself with is safe for your health. Do not let the discomfort of the symptoms encourage you into using a medication for yeast infection that may not be a wise choice for your body. There are ingredients in some over the counter treatments that you would not want anywhere near you and cause unwanted side effects. Other options like antibiotics are the very thing you want to avoid as it is a cause, and only gives you a temporary relief.

Perhaps you are one of the people who would benefit more from a natural medication for yeast infection or homeopathic ones. There are several effective ones out there as well as supplements to help lower the pH of your body. This can also be done via diet changes. For example coconut oil and acidophiles can be eaten or taken as supplements to help.

Yeast infections are the result of a fungus that is naturally in the body called Candida Albicans that has over grown. There are millions of microscopic organisms in our bodies and usually we live a normal healthy life and they do not affect us adversely. Even the foods we eat help provide nutrition not just to ourselves but also to these organisms. Usually these microbes do something for us too for example Candida supposedly help with movements of the bowel as it resides in the colon and intestinal tract.

Candida Albicans is not the only bacteria that has an almost symbiotic relationship with us, there are many all over our body that work for us as we provide a home and food for them. Working alongside the immune system to prevent yeast infections and keep us healthy.

To get more good bacteria in our bodies that work for us we can take probiotics, the more well known being Lact acid bacteria or LAB. This is the bacteria that helps keep the pH level in our bodies lower, which prevent yeast infection from growing as it prefers high pH. When the Candida do over grow they lead yeast infections that come with all kinds of uncomfortable and embarrassing symptoms such as pain, itching, swelling and a rash.

Putting more probiotics into our systems means there are more good bacteria getting into our gut and intestines. They can attack any microbes there that are not healthy and kill them. It controls Candida Albicans not just by fighting them but also because both kinds of micro organisms feed on the same food. When the Candida Albicans have to compete for its food it is kept under control and can not have any excessive growth, therefore not becoming a yeast infection. The body maintains its balance.

To find these useful probiotics look for it added to products like yogurt and some other dairy foods. You can also look for it as a supplement in tablet or powder form from health stores and pharmacies.
