It is usual for men to believe that only women get yeast infections but this is not true at all. There are actually a small percentage of men who can get the infection so do not presume that as a man you are safe. As a man who has suffered through it I am here to offer some advice and assure you it is nothing to laugh about.

I knew something was wrong when I had an itch in my genitals and just could not stop scratching. My penis when I looked at it was all red and it was very sore. I got up the guts to ask a friend about the symptoms and she said it sounded like a yeast infection! So i looked it up and did some research and discovered just how a yeast infection happens.

There is a fungus called Candida Albicans that lives in our bodies and is usually harmless. However certain things can trigger an overgrowth and when that happens it leads to a yeast infection. Commonly for men a yeast infection is transferred to them from a partner who is infected during sex. But there are natural male yeast infection treatments you can use to clear up the infection and restore the natural balance of the body.

Here are some home remedies that are simple but work permanently.

Oatmeal is good for the body and helps keep it balanced so eat plenty and it can be used as a cream and applied directly to the area of the infection. Yogurt can also be eaten and applied in this manner, as long as it is plain, no sugar no fruit. It has good bacteria that will restore the natural balance and kill the yeast. Vinegar can be used to clean the infected area.

These are what I found to be the best male yeast infection treatments that were suggested.

Men it is important that you realise that yeast infections are not just a female health problem. Though Candida problems are not as common in men as in women, men can still be affected by the yeast’s overgrowth and the consequent uncomfortable and unpleasant symptoms.

If kept under control Candida can help your body by killing other harmful bacteria and helping in the digestive tract. But when it is allowed to overgrow it becomes a yeast infection. This happens if the immune system is weakened or if good bacteria are killed. For example AIDs or HIV sufferers are more likely to get yeast infections because their immune system is compromised.

The most common area of the body men get a yeast infection is in the penis, with symptoms that include itching, red rash, burning at the head, small red or white bumps, white penile discharge and pain during sex. If you are unsure visit your doctor for a proper diagnosis so that fast treatment can be started.

Here are four causes of male yeast infections.

Weakened Immune System

This is a major cause of the infection. Prolonged use of antbiotics can adversely affect the immune system and kill the good bacteria that keeps the candida fungus under control.

High Blood Sugar Levels

Diabetics or high blood sugar levels make you more at risk because the yeast loves the sugar. It is important therefore to control your diet and take medical advice where needed.

Spermicidal Lubricant

Condoms that have spermicidal lubricants can cause injuries to the genital areas like sores which makes them more likely to get yeast infections as the chemical balance is disrupted there. Avoid them if you have a problem with yeast infections or have sensitive skin.

Sex

If you are a man who has had unprotected sex with an infected partner you can get the yeast infection in this manner. It will keep going back and forth between partners until BOTH get treated.

Women are more likely to get a yeast infection than men, but men can still get them and the symptoms and causes tend to be very similar. In men because they are more likely to be beer drinkers this can help a male yeast infection thrive as does eating lots of sweet snacks. Once you understand what a yeast infection is and clear yourself of any misconceptions and old wive tales you will be able to avoid the infection and make the changes in your lifestyle if they are needed.

Men do not always immediately recognise that they have a yeast infection, it is only when their health worsens that they suspect something is wrong. If the urethra is affected by a yeast infection this can be nasty as it can damage the man’s sexual function. This is a big clue to men that there is a problem.

Common male yeast infection symptoms are smelly breath, indigestion, constipation, bloatedness, gas, diarrhea and very loose stools. As mentioned before not being able to function during sex is also a sign, as well as pain during sex. There can be itching, a rash along the penis, sometimes white or yellow discharge from the tip and redness.

If the male yeast infection is affecting the penis there is a treatment called Lotrimin that can be purchased at the pharmacy over the counter. Gentian Violet is another treatment that is safe and natural. Aceium is also a good option to treat the infection with. A recommened herbal product is Nutribiotic Liquid Grapefruit See Extract. Other natural remedies that work for women would also work for men including yogurt, tea tree oil, garlic and white vinegar. There are plenty of treatments you can choose from which is a relief I am sure since the infection is very unpleasant to suffer from.

A final piece of advice is checking your diet. As mentioned before cut out sugar and beer, but also cut down on carbohydrates, processed and refined foods. Eat more vegetables and find ways to destress. Wear natural fibred clothing and keep it loose. Drink lots of water to help clean and flush out your system.

Although yeast infections in women are a lot more common than in men, they can happen. This is because the fungus that causes them, Candida Albicans, are in everyone. Usually they stay harmless but given the right reason the fungus grows and becomes a yeast infection. The symptoms include irritation and itchiness on the head of the penis, a burning feeling, sores on the head and/or the foreskin and possibly some white discharge. In fact some men do not show any symptoms which can make diagnosis and treatment a little tricky!

Yeast infections thrive in dark, wet and warm areas which is why they are so common in the genital area, though they can also happen in the mouth which is known as Thrush.

Below explains why you may have a yeast infection, as in order to treat it you need to look at what is causing it, otherwise though you may take care of the symptoms, it can just come back again.
Antibiotics can lead to yeast infections as they are made to attack and destroy bacteria so they kill the good ones as well as the bad. It was the good bacteria that kept them under control and stopped the large growth.
Poor diets can be a cause too as foods like sugar and carbohydrates and yeast and mold can all provide the nutrition the yeast infection needs to grow.

If your immune system is weakened then it cannot fight the infection. It may be weak because of an illness like diabetes or HIV, or because of long term drug or medication use.

Though it is not an STD, yeast infections can be passed during sexual intercourse. So sex is not a cause really but it can be a factor in the yeast infection being passed over from a woman who is infected.

As mentioned diabetes can be an issue as it is all about sugar. If your are battling diabetes you are battling high sugar levels and the yeast feeds on sugar.

There are may natural, holistic approaches to treating yeast infections that are effective, easy and cheap to do.
