A very large part of treating an overgrowth of candida in your body is to take in more probiotics. These are the good bacteria that will help get rid of the candida and often the overgrowth occurs when good bacteria levels are depleted. There are various ways to get probiotics into your diet, the most common recommended way is through plain live yogurt or supplements. But if you want to avoid eating dairy and would rather get them from your diet than in capsule form you can look at juicing sauerkraut for probiotics to treat candida.

Sauerkraut

Good or beneficial bacteria are very important for your overall health as well as specifically for candida. They help your immune system in being able to identify microbes that are a threat, they boost the immune system, help you absorb the nutrients you need, break down things in your diet that are not wanted, help the body make vitamins it needs and much more. Sauerkraut is a fermented cabbage that traditionally comes from Europe and is full of vitamins C, B and even A and K as well as other nutrients, and because of the fermentation good bacteria called Lactobacilli plantarum. The juice from this fermentation process can be used for a number of purposes, to help the digestive tract, for upset stomachs, constipation, a hangover cure, cleansing the liver and may even help prevent cancer cells from growing.

If you want the benefits of juicing sauerkraut for probiotics to treat candida you should make the fresh version rather than buying it canned. Most sauerkraut that you can buy has been pasteurized which means the good bacteria have been destroyed.

Making it yourself

You will need

about two heads of cabbage

salt

large pot or bucket

knife or grater

a plate

a jar of water or a weight of some kind

a towel

optional – a blender

Juicing sauerkraut for probiotics to treat candida

Either grate or chop the two heads of cabbage. How finely you make them is up to you and something you can play around with each time you do this until you have them at a size that most suits you. Two heads of cabbage should make up about 5 pounds.

For 5 pounds of cabbage you want 3 tablespoons of salt. Add some of the cabbage to the pot, add some salt and then with hands that have been washed press down so the cabbage breaks up and juices come out. Add some more cabbage and salt and continue until all the cabbage and salt are in the pot.

The salt helps to draw out the liquid in the cabbage and is what ferments the cabbage. You need to keep crushing down until there are lots of juices in the pot ideally so that they cover the cabbage. Then use a plate on top of the cabbage to keep it submerged, make sure no cabbage is sticking out as it will rot.

Fill a jar or several with water or use a weight on top of the plate to keep pressure pushing down on the cabbage. Cover with a towel or cloth to protect from dust and bugs.

Every 3 or 4 hours push down on the plate to get the level of brine to rise. After 24 hours the brine level should be very high – if it has not risen add some salt water by mixing 1 teaspoon of salt with a cup of water.

Now let it sit and ferment for a couple of weeks. You can check it every couple of days as in very warm months the fermenting will be a lot quicker than in winter.

Now you can either spend a couple of weeks eating the sauerkraut itself and then you are left with the juice, or you can put the sauerkraut in a blender or juicer and drink that along with the juice itself.

This article continues to look at natural supplements that will top up your good bacteria in order to improve your digestion and immune systems. Good bacteria are en essential part of our defense system against illnesses, diseases and infections like yeast infections. Many people overlook the importance of the good bacteria or probiotics that we have, however when something happens to deplete the natural levels of good bacteria, we can take easy steps to replenish them.

Culturelle Probiotic with Lactobacillus

If you are looking for good bacteria to keep your defences in peak condition against illness and disease, there are many brands to choose from and Culturelle Probiotic with Lactobacillus is one of them. This brand comes with a patented strain of good bacteria known as lactobacillus GG. It promotes a natural balance in your digestive tract and is special, according to the brand, because the lactobacillus GG can attach themselves to the intestinal walls unlike other strains of good bacteria, which means you get more out of them.

You take one capsule a day normally or twice a day if you are on a course of antibiotics. This way when those antibiotics kill the bad bacteria and the good bacteria as they make you well again, the supplement is keeping your good bacteria constantly topped up.

Nature’s Secret Digestive Bliss Probiotic

This probiotic supplement will not only help with your digestive tract and your defense against disease it will also help you with your energy levels. In each capsule are good bacteria that will help restore and then maintain balance of our natural flora. There are several types of good bacteria in each capsule the main one being lactobacillus. It has been found that for our bodies to run well we actually need a variety of good bacteria not just one kind, and this product has recognized this with a patented blend of good bacteria.

The capsules are coated to ensure the good bacteria get to the small intestines before releasing their contents rather than being lost in the stomach too soon. There are 4 billion CFU of good bacteria in each capsule. Store this product in a dry and cool place.

Natren’s Healthy trinity

Healthy Trinity is something special because of the amount of colony forming units (CFU) of good bacteria it has per capsule. 30 billion CFU is the number. They will help your digestive system work better, help your body absorb the nutrients it needs, get rid of waste and toxins, and give your immune system a boost. Each capsule has an oil matrix system that ensures the good bacteria are kept separate so they do not compete with each other and so that it passes through the stomach and gastric juices without any loss of those good bacteria before it gets to the intestines.

The good bacteria in this supplement will help stop bad bacteria attaching or thriving in your intestines and will also produce hydrogen peroxide, which makes the environment unfriendly for yeast and other bad bacteria. It also help with gas and other digestive issues such as breaking down dairy products, helps keep good cholesterol levels, releases B vitamins and helps digest complex carbs and proteins. However it is one of the more expensive probiotic supplements you can buy.

FiveLac or ThreeLac

FiveLac is an improvement on ThreeLac. It has the same good bacteria as ThreeLac and then has an extra two good bacteria to make it even more effective. Both have the same formulation that ensures the different good bacteria work together rather than compete, and both are coated so that they reach the intestines rather than being damaged by the acidic stomach environment. Once where they are needed the good bacteria will restore balance and make the place a poor place for yeast and fungi to live, while also supposedly helping with yeast infection symptoms.

One thing to remember with Fivelac is that some experience Candida Die-Off symptoms when taking it, the effect the toxins have on our bodies when dieing yeast releases them. Though this can be discouraging, stick with it.

Renew Life Ultimate Flora

Renew Life has ten strains of good bacteria, is safe for vegans as has no gluten in it and are enteric coated so will get through the stomach acids and to the intestines. Each capsule has a high 50 billion live good bacteria in it, the highest out of our probiotic supplements list. The combination is 30 billion Bifidobacteria and 20 billion Lactobacilli and Lactococcus. The enteric coating is there to ensure stomach acids do not kill any of those good bacteria and this probiotic is great for someone who has critical probiotic needs, for example people with IBS.

BioBeads probiotic Acidophilus

Acidophilus probiotics are very important to our bodies. For a healthy body you need 1 billion live cultures of acidophilus good bacteria and that is what you get with this supplement. The beads are easy to swallow and will boost defences and immunity as well as digestion. You just need to take one a day.

As with most good brands of probiotics they are protected so that the stomach acids do not destroy them on their way to the intestines. Once there they get working straight away.

In fact BioBeads has a triple coating so that they are good for as long as 18 months, they get to the intestines safely and the good bacteria release where they are meant to. These supplements do not need to be refrigerated and are 100% full of good bacteria, no gluten, artificial additives, yeast, wheat or anything else.

Digestive Advantage IBS Probiotic supplement

Final brand in our list is a supplement great for those with IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Each capsule has a combination of lactobacillus cultures to help with your digestive system. They are chewable capsules to be taken once a day. The good bacteria will help with IBS symptoms such as gas, bloating and so on. As well as the good bacteria there are also amino acids in each capsule that help with the digestion of complex carbs, dairy foods, meats and fruits. IBS can have a very negative impact on a person’s life and then the added complications of yeast infections on top of that is not something a person has to put up with anymore.

A yeast infection happens when there is an overgrowth of a fungus called Candida Albicans in the body. These fungi live on most people in small numbers without us even being aware, but if the immune system is not at full strength or of something disrupts the balance of the body or kills the good bacteria that control the fungus’ growth, it rapidly multiplies. Yeast infections happen in warm and damp places very commonly the vagina, but equally possible in the penis area, the anus, the mouth, under arms or folds of skin, the nails and the breasts.

Symptoms include burning, itching, redness, rashes, sores, flaking, swelling, discharge as well as more general symptoms that include headaches, tiredness, bloating, mood swings, and more.

But just because the fungus is in most of us does not make it contagious. If a person with any form of yeast infection were to touch you, you are not going to then automatically get a yeast infection yourself. But there are a couple of ways in which it can be passed on to another person and the first is via sex or sexual contact. If a woman has a vaginal yeast infection and has unprotected sex with her male partner he can get a penile yeast infection though the risk is low. So is a yeast infection contagious – only through sexual contact, even then it is rare. But a yeast infection is not an STD.

The other way the answer to is yeast infection contagious yes, is between a nursing mother and her new baby. A pregnant woman can pass on a yeast infection to their baby as it is born. The baby can then pass that yeast infection back to the mother to her breasts via her nipple whilst breast feeding. Both mother and baby need to get this treated otherwise they can keep reinfecting each other.

Remember the cause of a yeast infection is the overgrowth of existing microorganisms in your body, not a spreadable bacteria or virus. Things that trigger that overgrowth are things like mismanaged diabetes, over use of antibiotics, poor diet, tight clothing, hormonal imbalance/changes to name a few. These are all things you are in control of for the most part. You cannot get one from sitting on a public toilet seat or drinking from the same cup as someone.

To prevent a yeast infection you need to avoid sugars, refined and processed foods, wear cotton and loose clothing, get out of wet clothing straight away, control your diabetes, exercise, sleep well and manage stress, do not douche, avoid using scented products in prone areas like the vagina, maintain good hygiene practices.

Oral candida, or a yeast infection of the mouth, is very uncomfortable and can be quite distressing to have. At normal low levels it lives on the body harmlessly, but when it is able to overgrow it becomes a yeast infection. It can happen anywhere on the body, particularly places that damp and warm, including skin, intestinal tract, nail beds, genitals and the mouth.

Symptoms – white spots on the inside of the mouth which can join together causing a substance that is sometimes compared to cottage cheese. It has a white, grey or yellowy color and below it the skin is red and raw. After antibiotics your mouth may feel sore and looks red. Corners of the mouth can get cracked and sore. In babies they may refuse to feed as a result of the pain.

Causes – there are a number of different causes of Thrush. A weakened immune system due to ill health may mean your body is unable to fight the yeast off. Antibiotics are another cause as they kill the good bacteria that normally control the yeast’s growth. Without the good bacteria the yeast multiplies and leads to an infection. Steroid tablets and too much rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash can also do this. If you have iron or folate deficiencies these can also lead to a mouth yeast infection. Chemotherapy treatments can also lower your usuall defences and leave you open to attack.

Treatments – garlic and calendula supplements are effective as they are anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. But you do need to look at what the root cause of the problem is and deal with that otherwise the infection will just keep returning. There are drops, gels and lozenges on the market that contain antifungal drugs like miconazole and nystatin that will give quick relief though again they do not deal with the root problem. Home remedies include yogurt, plain and live, which will not only offer some soothing relief but will also reintroduce good bacteria into your body to fight the overgrowth. Changes in diet may be needed for long term relief. Avoid sugars, carbohydrates, processed and junk foods as the yeast feeds on them.

In this article the case we are looking at also has suffered from lung disease (Silicosis). It is from the work they did for over thirty years and he had been experiencing feelings of tiredness and feeling run down for a year. He supposed his immune system was weakened but his O2 levels are near normal. He noticed his toenails getting dark which was around the time he was diagnosed with lung disease so he presumed they were linked, but now thinks the nails were actually a symptom of the candida problem.

3 months ago this case started to get a burning in his eyes and throat and on his tongue he had a white, thick milky layer. The doctor he went to about it said it was Thrush or Oral yeast infection and was caused by the steroid inhaler he was using.

In order to fight Candida he came off all medications apart from those he was taking for the Thrush itself and it seemed to work, he thought he’d got it all cleared up. But then he had to go on antibiotics, and high amounts of prednisone and this caused the candida to return, worse than before.

In an attempt to treat it this case has tried Sporanox, Diflucan (pill and liquid form), Mycelex Troches, Nystatin, and Nizoral. But the infection is not responding to any of them, making him extremely frustrated. Sometimes it will go away for a few days, only to return again. It has had a negative impact on his whole life and the doctor has not been any help either.

It is becoming a systemic infection getting into his lungs, which is a big concern. He is trying a combination of conventional treatments, Diflucan liquid with Nystatin. However he is now looking for a natural treatment because of the expense this has been, and how ineffective drug based treatments have been.

There are many different sites and articles concerning yeast infections and how a change in diet can make a difference that can be found online. Some of it is very conflicting, some of it can not be trusted but there is some trustworthy information out there, you just have to look and cross check. One example of a book and website that has information that can be of great help is ‘Eat Right for Your Type’.

This looks at eating right according to your blood type rather than making sweeping generalizations. Rather than focusing on one aliment or issue it is a concept that involves changing your diet and eating habits to improve your whole health and immune system, regardless of what symptoms or infection you may be suffering from.

People looking to change their diet in an attempt to fight candida ask many questions, how often do they have to eat fruit and vegetables, and how much? How do you know whether it has worked and the yeast is all gone? Is there a test you can do to tell? How many carbohydrates can I eat?

Most plans suggest cutting out fruits because of the natural sugars they contain. That also includes fruit juices and sweet vegetables as the yeast feeds off of sugar of any kind and will therefore continue to feed and grow. But ‘Eat Right for Your Type’ will help you get a plan more aimed at you and will help answer all of those questions and more.

There are also raw food plans that do not just focus on the problem of candida but are about having your whole system cleansed and flushed of toxins. Raw foods contain more nutrients than cooked ones which is fantastic for the immune system.

This person was diagnosed with Candida a fortnight ago but for years has been dealing with muscle and joint pains, fatigue and migraines. She was not the type of person to be on antibiotics repeatedly but had her share of them over the years for various health problems.

She was also having problems loosing weight and so went to see a Homeopathic doctor and it was she that diagnosed Candida. The patient was put on a candida diet and given some homeopathic preps which are relatively new having only been around for a two or so years. There were 4 that all had to be done in order. According to the doctor in six months the patient will be candida free and she can then start eating some of the foods that for now she has to cut out.

The sugar cravings were very bad, ice cream, cookies, wanting sweet coffee and iced tea, frosted pastries. No wonder she struggled with her weight, having gained 30 pounds thanks to the candida infection and the pounds were still adding on. In order to ease into the diet she has been eating organic fruit instead of refined sugar foods, which the doctor okayed. She is using the fruit as a transition to help stave off the cravings for all things sweet so she is less likely to fall off the diet altogether.

She intends to gradually reduce the fruit she eats so she is not even feeding the yeast natural sugars, and is lucky in that she has her own gardens in which she has a lot of organic fresh vegetables which are big on her new diet plan.

There is a direct connection between candida and alcohol and this article is meant to help you understand what that connection is, why alcohol should be avoided if you are fighting a yeast infection, and in fact how candida can cause symptoms similar to those experienced by a person who is inebriated.

So the link between candida and alcohol is basically if you have an overgrowth problem you are effectively fermenting yeast in your body. Just as alcohol is fermented. It can cause exhaustion, fatigue and a lot of other undesirable symptoms. Drinking when you have a yeast infection can raise the toxicity in your liver to levels you would not imagine, as both together become very toxic and has high amounts of acetaldehyde. This is the chemical that after a lot of alcohol consumption causes the symptoms of a hangover. If your body is making this awfully toxic compound each day that already weakened liver is being hammered, as is your immune system.

So in the same way candida sufferers are tired and fatigued, a drinker becomes hung over. Of course as well as that symptoms there are many others, all of which cause the immune system to be weakened further as well as the liver, and a general overall feeling of poor health.

Even without a candida infection a lot pf people when they go out to drink socially drink too much and are causing their own set of health problems. But with candida this is multiplied and increased a lot. The liver cannot handle that kind of poor decision making for long.

Everyone has heard of yeast infections and how they affect women, but not everyone realizes that they are not just a female health problem, male yeast infection can happen too. So if you are a man looking for answers about what male yeast infection is, and what to do, this article is for you.

Female yeast infections are far more common which is probably how the misunderstanding started, but if you are unlucky enough as a guy to get a candida infection the symptoms are just as severe compared to what a woman would suffer. These candida symptoms include itching that won’t go away on the penis, blisters and or a rash on the head and shaft of the penis as well as pain when having sex and urinating. In severe cases it can even cause sexual dysfunction.

Therefore early detection and treatment is very important. A lot will go to their doctor hoping that a prescribed treatment will offer them a quick fix, but there are natural options that are equally quick and far more beneficial for your overall health. An exploration of natural treatments in generally includes looking at changes to your lifestyle and diet that will target the root cause of the infection. With quick treatment you can avoid the nastier affects that come about from advanced stages of a yeast infection.

Even if you decide to go natural, you should still visit your doctor for a confirmed diagnosis. He or she will also be able to recommend treatment options that will suit your case. You should straight away abstain from sex though as a yeast infection, though not classed as an STD can be transmitted via sexual intercourse.

If you are too embarrassed to talk to your doctor about it there are products you can get over the counter, most of which are aimed at women, but will work just as well for men. But natural remedies are just as easy to find and use and are cheaper too! Alongside those you need to avoid starchy and sugary foods. Also cut out fermented products like beer, and cut down on red meat. Eat more fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water.

If you are having a look at this article then it probably means you are suffering from recurring yeast infection and you want to know why it keeps happening. You have taken the right stop, in order to manage this problem as best you can, you need to know not just about the symptoms, but what the root causes of an infection are.

The micro-organism Candida albicans is what causes yeast infections. Present normally on the body, this fungus is normally harmless in its small numbers. But when the balance of the body gets messed with the fungus can overgrow, leading to a yeast infection. When you know what is causing your imbalance you can take steps to correct it.

Here are the top ten triggers that lead to a yeast infection (in no particular order):

1 Unprotected sex with a partner who if untreated can re-infect you.

2 Wearing tight or wet clothing frequently (pantyhose, jeans, synthetic underwear).

3 A diet that is poor meaning high in yeast and sugar foods and low in fresh fruits and vegetables.

4 Not properly curing the first infection.

5 Using scented and or harsh products on that area such as toilet paper, tampons, soaps, bubble bath, deodorants, douching.

6 Being on antibiotics for a prolonged amount of time as they kill the good bacteria that control the candida’s growth normally.

7 Low immune system from another illness.

8 Some lubricants and spermicides in condoms can affect the pH of the vagina and give the fungus a chance to over grow.

9 If small tears occur as a result of sex when not adequately lubricated it can trigger an infection.

10 Hormone changes affect the pH and usual chemical balance of the body and so can lead to an infection. This includes pregnancy, birth control pill, menopause, menstruation and use of steroids.

Dealing with this possible causes can mean you are less likely to get another outbreak, though you will find it can involves lifestyle changes, changing what you wear, you eat and so on. Do not wait till you get another infection, take those steps now. Prevention is always better than a cure and the added benefit of this more holistic and natural approach dealing with your recurring yeast infections, is that it will make you overall healthier too.

This article is going to take you through some of the main yeast infection causes as well as looking at how to avoid it. Candida Albicans and its overgrowth is what leads to a yeast infection. These are a fungi that live on the body normally in controlled low numbers, harmless, in places such as the genitals, mouth, anus, intestinal tract. Basically where it is moist and warm. Its growth is limited by your immune system and the good bacteria also in our bodies. There are some things that can affect those controls though and lead to the over growth.

Living a healthier lifestyle will limit your chances of an infection. Getting enough sleep, avoiding late nights and drinking alcohol will help a lot. Unprotected sex should also be avoided as a yeast infection can be passed on in this manner. If you do not pay attention to such things you could end up with a chronic condition where you are dealing with repeated outbreaks during the year.

Though more common in women, it is not exclusively a female infection, men can get it too as can children. It is more common in women because the vagina is such an ideal environment for the yeast to grow and because of the various hormonal changes they undergo such as menopause, birth control pills, menstruation and pregnancy. All of these upset the natural balance of the body and thus can trigger an overgrowth.

To avoid this there are some things you can do. There are triggers that can be avoided. Tight fitting clothing needs to be changed to loose clothing, maintain proper hygiene and cut out foods with sugar and yeast. Any perfumed soaps or scented products can cause chemical imbalance so should also be avoided.

Talk to your doctor if you think you see some of the yeast infection causes to get a proper diagnosis and to talk about treatment options. There are medicated treatments as well as natural remedies. Do not let the condition drag on as ignoring it will not make it go away. Natural remedies are becoming more popular with women who are not happy with the results they get with drug based treatments and want something that is effective, easy to get and has no side effects.

If you are worried that you have a yeast infection because of some symptoms you are suffering with have a look here for some answers. It is important to check your symptoms rather than rushing to buy an over the counter cream, as there are several infections of the vagina that all have similar symptoms. Once you know for sure what you have you can get it treated, whether by conventional methods or natural remedies and get the relief you are longing for.

Common vaginal candida symptoms:

Itching – The most common symptom and a very frustrating and difficult one to suffer through. If there is extended vaginal itching you certainly have an infection of some kind there.

Pain – Not usually on its own, but alongside other symptoms. The pain may be inside the vagina or on the lips. It is something that is usually more clearly felt when having sex and / or when urinating.

Odor – Despite common belief that yeast infection means you smell fishy this is not the case. A fishy odor is more an indication of a bacterial infection rather than a fungal one and that means you need to look at taking probiotics. There can be an odor with a yeast infection, some say it smells yeasty.

Burning – A feeling inside and outside the vagina – named vaginal burning – another very common vaginal candida symptom.

Discharge – Varies in color from white to yellowish or sometimes clear. Consistency is often compared to cottage cheese but it can be thin too so diagnosis cannot be made on just this vaginal symptom.

Redness and swelling – Easy one to observe. If alongside the swelling and redness you see a rash too this is a very large sign that a yeast infection is happening.

To begin treatment even before you see your doctor there are some things you can do safely. Keep the are clean cool and dry, eat more live yogurt and cut out sugar from your diet.

Yeast infections are becoming more and more common nowadays and part of the reason for that is antibiotics. There are tow types of antibiotics, narrow spectrum that target one type of bacteria and broad spectrum that target a range. The latter type of antibiotics cause yeast infections and this article will explain how that happens.

A yeast infection occurs in anyone, men and women. It happens as the result of a fungus on the body overgrowing. This fungus is part of the Candida family and is called Candida Albicans. It lives harmlessly in low numbers in places that are warm and moist such as is internally in the mouth, intestinal tract and externally under folds of skin, and the genitals. If the good bacteria re killed or the immune system cannot do its job, the fungus is able to rapidly grow and that leads to a yeast infection. Sufferers recognize it because of the symptoms such as itching, redness, swelling, discharge, rash, some pain and discomfort.

Antibiotics are one of the things that can kill those good bacteria which enables the overgrowth to occur. Antibiotics cause yeast infections because when taken, especially if a person takes them often or is on a prolonged course, they kill all bacteria. Great because you are presumably ill caused by bad bacteria, which you want killed. But antibiotics are not clever drugs! They do not know how to tell the difference between the bad bacteria you want to get rid of, and the good bacteria you really want to keep! So antibiotics cause yeast infections by killing all bacteria. Without those good bacteria there to control the growth of the Candida Albicans a yeast infection will happen.

Therefore as a society we need to stop taking antibiotics unless we really need them. Not only is the overuse of antibiotics causing a rise in yeast infections it is also allowing infections to build up a tolerance for them. Doctors are having to prescribe stronger doses than they used to and the last thing we want is to get to a point where antibiotics are not effective anymore. People also need to follow the instructions when on a course of antibiotics. Take the full course even if your illness seems to have cleared up a day or 2 before. Never self teat yourself with antibiotics you have left over from a previous illness.

Though antibiotics cause yeast infections there are things you can do to help minimize the risk if you are taking them. Cut down on how much sugar you are eating and drinking as this will feed the yeast and help the process of a yeast infection. Eat more live probiotic yogurt as this will help replenish the good bacteria. Drink lots of water to flush out toxins and make sure you eat a healthy diet that is balanced and has lots of green vegetables.
