In fact a yeast infection can happen anywhere on the body, your skin, your genitalia (man or woman) and yes even the mouth. It is a fungal infection and when it is in the mouth it is also referred to as Thrush. Symptoms range from white, cream or sometimes yellow spots or blisters, pain when trying to swallow food, burning of the throat and mouth and bad breath.

Thrush is contagious so it is important that actions should be taken to minimise infecting others. This is not an illness to be treated lightly as if it is not treated correctly and as soon as possible it can lead to other physical health problems. Anyone can get it, but it is more common amongst babies and infants who have bottles that are not cared for properly, the elderly who do not care for their dentures correctly, drug users and people that have poor diets.

There are several things to do to help clear an infection up or prevent one from occurring. Look at your diet and avoid foods that encourage the candida growth like sugars. Eat yogurt that contains lactobacilli daily. Floss, brush and rinse with mouthwash daily – good mouth hygiene is important. Visit a dentist once every six months for a check up and proper clean.

Remember to try and treat it at the start of the infection as you will avoid further complications this way. Those that do not react quickly enough, or have tried to suffer in silence, become chronic sufferers and doctors admit it becomes difficult to treat at that stage.

For anyone interested there is some research completed by a former sufferer Sarah Summer that will be of interest. After a long battle with the infection she decided to take matters into her own hands and researched about the subject herself. With her husband’s help ( a medical researcher) and with consultation with other experts she came up with a system of natural remedies to clear up the infection. Even those with chronic yeast infections can be successfully treated, so take a look at her site.

More often than not when a discussion about yeast infections occurs it involves women as after all over three quarters of women will or have suffered from them. However they are not, as people believe, a female illness. Men can get them too though it is not as common as for a woman. Treatments are the same however, usually people choose over the counter anti-fungal creams.

One way men can get a yeast infection is from sexual contact with an infected wife, girlfriend or sexual partner. A woman can pass a yeast infection on to a man during sex, and a man can pass it on to the woman too. For this reason it is important to either abstain for the duration of the infection or to practice safe sex and use condoms. But even using condoms there is still risk. Avoid a cycle of re-infecting each other and make sure you are examined by a doctor to confirm your condition is a yeast infection and not something else.

Other causes of a yeast infection are really the same as a woman. Antibiotics for an overly long time can lead to it as they kill all bacteria in the body including the good ones that were keeping the fungus micro-organism in check. Diabetics are more prone as well as people with illnesses that damage the immune system such as HIV sufferers.

Other lifestyle contributing factors are a diet that is high in sugar, using steroids, high stress and wearing clothing that is too tight. Yeast likes it warm and damp and tight clothing creates that very environment.

So now you know as a man you can get a yeast infection how do you identify it? Symptoms in men can include rashes, difficulty performing sexually, burning, discharge and discomfort. But sometimes there is maybe 1 or even no symptoms which makes it very hard to diagnose and then treat. Once you know you have it, treat it as soon as possible. Early treatment is important. If over the counter methods do not work for you, your doctor can prescribe something else.

When a woman is lactating it creates the perfect environment for a yeast infection , warm and moist. Unfortunately when a breast is being used to feed a baby it also becomes a place where the candida fungus can commonly thrive. Candida albicans or monilia are other names given to a yeast infection and in this article you will find out what symptoms to look for and why it happens.

Symptoms – A breast yeast infection comes with some nasty symptoms such as itchy and sore nipples and a pain that occurs when you try to scratch at an itch that never seem to go. There is burning as well as a discharge from the breast ducts into the breast milk. Severe cases can have blisters and sores and even occasional bleeding.

Causes – As mentioned yeast thrives in warm and damp areas so the breast that is being used to frequently feed a baby becomes a nice breeding ground for the fungus. Also if the baby has Thrush, a mouth yeast infection, this can be passed on to the breast while they feed. If you have a low immune system this can also lead to an outbreak as it is unable to stop the yeast from multiplying.

If you have been on prolonged medications particularly antibiotics this can cause a yeast infection. The antibiotics are designed to kill the bacteria that cause whatever is ailing you. But in fact they just kill all bacteria, both the bad ones you want to get rid of, and the good ones you want to keep. Those good bacteria were the micro-organisms that kept the yeast at balanced levels in your body. Without them the yeast are able to mutliply out of control. Also watch out for drugs like birth control pills as these cause hormonal changes which also make a candida infection more possible.

Treatment – This needs to be discussed with your doctor as the concern is for mother and baby. It is important to make sure that both mommy and baby are clear of all infection before you begin recommence breast feeding otherwise the cycle of infection can start up again.

Women are more prone to yeast infections than men partly because of the hormonal changes they undergo more often. Menstruation, menopause, birth control pills and also pregnancy make a woman more susceptible to the yeast infection at those times. Being pregnant makes you more likely to get a yeast infection because of all the hormonal changes your body is undergoing, which causes an imbalance.

Obviously you want to get it treated but while looking for an effective treatments you also need to be careful that what you choose is safe for your unborn child and will not cause premature labor. Herbal as well as pharmaceutical treatments both need to be examined carefully and it is important to discuss it with your doctor, before you begin treating yourself.

The following is some advice on a safe course of action you can take while pregnant and dealing with a yeast infection. These are things to do with your lifestyle that will help control the yeast growth or prevent an infection, but they are not cures.

•	Diet – There are foods you can include in your diet that can help you fight the yeast infection by rebalancing your body and making it less acidic, which the yeast hates. Foods that can do this are almonds, papaya, carrots, pumpkins, sauerkraut, blackberries, cabbage, pineapple, onions and lemon seeds.

•	Clothing – Make sure your clothing is nice and loose so that air circulates and it is not getting too damp where the infection is. Yeast multiplies in damp, dark and warm environments hence the vagina is a perfect breeding ground. Wear skirts and cotton underwear, or if you can do not wear any underwear at all!

•	Hygiene – Clean yourself frequently and very importantly dry properly after showers, bathing, swimming, working out etc. Dryness is vital.

By following these pieces of advice you are minimizing the growth of the yeast without harming your baby. Talk to your doctor about treatments/cures and remember to keep up this routine after the infection has cleared to prevent it from returning.

Some people are unsure as to whether a yeast infection is contagious, and if so how contagious are. The answer I am sad to tell you, is yes they are and how much depends from person to person. Anyone can get them, they are not just a female disease. Contagion depends on various things such as how much contact was between the infected and non infected, what type of yeast infection it is and whether the non infected has a good immunity built up.

First of all though technically a yeast infection is not in the category of sexually transmitted diseases, it can be passed through sexual intercourse and sexual acts. Oral yeast infections are spread this way more frequently than any other. Whether having oral sex or penetration it is very important to wear a condom. Safe sex is always the right path to take.

If the non infected has a weak immune system, their body’s pH is unbalanced, they have had antibiotics recently, these all make them more likely to get the disease. For this reason, those that have HIV/AIDS or are having chemotherapy for cancer are more likely to get it as these affect their immune systems.
Mild skin rashes from yeast infection and toe nail fungus infection do not usually pass on from contact.

For those that do have the infection they can be very irritating and uncomfortable. Over the counter drugs and ointments from the local pharmacy help temporarily with symptoms but rarely with the root problem, which is the candida yeast being hyperactive. Therefore the infection will reoccur time and again, and may become resistant to treatments.

Natural remedies are an option that will avoid this pain. They are cheaper than store bought treatments and are effective. Do remember that it is important to take care of the infection as soon as you have identified the problem, as when ignored it becomes a chronic problem with severe symptoms and effects. If in doubt visit your doctor for professional help.

It is a common problem, yeast infections. They happen when the Candida bacteria that is present in the body all the time grows and multiplies. Vaginal yeast infections are the most common of yeast infections and are very hard to have to deal with for women. Symptoms like itching and burning make quick and effective cures vital, though other symptoms like swelling, pain when having sex or urinating and a thick vaginal discharge are just as likely and difficult to deal with. Though there are prescribed treatments and over the counter options, many women are turning to natural remedies as they do not wish to put chemicals into their bodies, and they want treatments that actually work!

Outlined below are seven cures that have been tested and proven to be fast acting.
1.	Clean the area thoroughly using just water and then dry it very carefully. Do not use scented soaps or gels or any other products down there. This also means be careful what detergents you use for your underwear.
2.	Tea tree oil has worked for many sufferers. Diluted in water and then used directly on the infection it starts working instantly. A few drops on a tampon is also another way to apply it.
3.	Cranberry juice is not just a refreshing drink! It helps flush out bad organisms from your system and has yeast fighting properties.
4.	Yogurt is the most popular and common cure. Eat it or dip a tampon in it and insert it. Not only gives you good bacteria to fight the yeast but soothes the itching and burning symptoms. Use plain yogurt no added fruit or sugar as sugar feeds the infection.
5.	Garlic is another excellent cure. Eaten or peeled and wrapped in a cloth and inserted in the vagina. It has anti fungal properties that fight the fungus that causes the yeast infection.
6.	Supplements such as probiotic pills to boost the good bacteria are also a good idea. Helps your immune system.
7.	Another supplement is boric acid applied directly to the infected region.

Pregnancy has many wonderful aspects…and some not so wonderful! One of the not so wonderful is the fact that being pregnant means you have hormonal changes and this can make you more open to a yeast infection. The hormone changes causes an imbalance in your body’s chemicals and this can lead to the Candida Albicans bacteria, that normally live in dark and wet areas such as the vagina, mouth and armpits, being able to grow and multiply until it is a yeast infection. This article debate the yeast infection and pregnancy.

In a normal healthy woman that is not expecting, the Candida Albicans live in the vagina in small numbers, kept under control by good bacteria. But all those bouncing hormones when pregnant allows the fungus to grow and the good bacteria are unable to control them. Also during pregnancy women sometimes find their immune systems are weakened so that the fetus is not attacked as it grows in your womb. All of your body is working towards feeding and nurturing the baby until a successful delivery and so that leaves you vulnerable to things like yeast infections.

Do remember that once you have a yeast infection you can pass it to your sexual partner and then even if you treat it, if he or she does not you can get it back off them. Make sure both of you get treated and practice safe sex; even though you are already pregnant there is still the problem of passing that infection back and forth.

When looking for a treatment it is very important that you talk to your doctor. You do not want to endanger your baby and some treatments may be fine for when you are not pregnant but may put the baby at risk when you are. It could affect the development of the child or cause premature labor. Even if it is a natural remedy discuss it with a professional first.

After the baby is born another factor to consider is whether you are breast feeding as this causes chemical imbalances too. Try to keep a healthy lifestyle and watch your diet for foods like sugar and yeast products as these feed the yeast infection. Be aware because yeast infection and pregnancy is not a toy to play with.

Thrush is the proper name for yeast infection of the mouth, and it affects the tongue, inner cheeks, mouth and gums. It is very important to identify oral yeast infection as soon as possible so that it can be treated and you do not have to deal with long term problems. This also prevents the infection spreading to other areas of the body which could affect your kidneys and lungs. This means recognizing and understanding the symptoms is key in treating it and avoiding passing the infection on to others.

The fungus that leads to the oral yeast infection is usually present on our body when we are healthy but it does not affect us while it is kept under control and you are healthy. It is taken care of by the good bacteria in the digestive system. When the balance is disturbed for example by antibiotics or by a weak immune system, the fungus can rapidly multiply and becomes a yeast infection.

Symptoms include white patches on the gums that are curd like, swelling and pain. There can also be bad breath and your tongue has a white coating. The cheesy type material makes fast treatment of the infection very important. If you do not act quickly you can face problems with your esophagus and stomach. Because of the very visible and obvious nature of Thrush symptoms it can be very embarrassing and have a large impact on your life, as you are too horrified to go out in public, to work or to socialize.

People more at risk from Thrush are babies and toddlers due to improperly washed and sterilized bottles, and older people that do not look after their dentures properly. However it can also be passed in during oral sex if the person receiving has a genital yeast infection. Even if not having full intercourse it is important to wear a condom and practice safe sex if you have any kind of infection.

The symptoms from a Candida oral yeast infection can last for quite a while and failing to take action will mean the infection never really clears up and symptoms will keep coming back. Take some steps in adjusting your lifestyle and diet in order to take preventative measures.

Yeast infections are the result of a fungus that is naturally in the body called Candida Albicans that has over grown. There are millions of microscopic organisms in our bodies and usually we live a normal healthy life and they do not affect us adversely. Even the foods we eat help provide nutrition not just to ourselves but also to these organisms. Usually these microbes do something for us too for example Candida supposedly help with movements of the bowel as it resides in the colon and intestinal tract.

Candida Albicans is not the only bacteria that has an almost symbiotic relationship with us, there are many all over our body that work for us as we provide a home and food for them. Working alongside the immune system to prevent yeast infections and keep us healthy.

To get more good bacteria in our bodies that work for us we can take probiotics, the more well known being Lact acid bacteria or LAB. This is the bacteria that helps keep the pH level in our bodies lower, which prevent yeast infection from growing as it prefers high pH. When the Candida do over grow they lead yeast infections that come with all kinds of uncomfortable and embarrassing symptoms such as pain, itching, swelling and a rash.

Putting more probiotics into our systems means there are more good bacteria getting into our gut and intestines. They can attack any microbes there that are not healthy and kill them. It controls Candida Albicans not just by fighting them but also because both kinds of micro organisms feed on the same food. When the Candida Albicans have to compete for its food it is kept under control and can not have any excessive growth, therefore not becoming a yeast infection. The body maintains its balance.

To find these useful probiotics look for it added to products like yogurt and some other dairy foods. You can also look for it as a supplement in tablet or powder form from health stores and pharmacies.
