Yeast infections are very annoying health problems for both men and women and occur when candida which already lives on you, multiplies into numbers too high for a body to deal with. It can happen anywhere but like any fungus, candida particularly likes and thrives in environments that are warm and moist. That is why the vaginal yeast infection is the most common type, but also why rectal yeast infections can also occur. There are however a number of reasons for rectal itching, it is an area that has constant contact with feces and can be irritated easily from wiping. If you do have rectal itching you should seek a proper medical diagnosis rather than assuming it is rectal yeast infection.

How does a rectal yeast infection develop?

There are a couple of ways a rectal yeast infection can come about, one is if you have a vaginal yeast infection it can spread to the rectal area leading to a rectal yeast infection also. Another way it can happen is if you have a problem with overgrowth in your bowels then this can also progress to the rectal area. It can also be triggered by itself in that region by things such as wearing damp clothes for longer than necessary, not drying yourself properly after bathing, eating spicy foods, not washing regularly there, wearing clothing that does not allow the skin to breath such as synthetic fibers, having regular diarrhea or constipation, using perfumed products there, or a having a diet that is generally poor and high in sugars.

Treating a rectal yeast infection

First of all identify the root cause and make changes if possible. If your underwear is synthetic switch to cotton, if you eat a lot of curry, cut back! If you have a diet high in sugars, lower it, eat more fresh foods especially leafy greens, and try switching to organic so that you are not consuming chemicals. Other things you should try to include are whole grains rather than refined foods and to get the probiotics needed to help with your internal candida eat plain yogurt, fermented cabbage, or kefir. You can also look for foods that will help soften the stools so that there is less irritation and it is lubricated, prunes or prune juice, unrefined cold pressed flax seed oil or flax seed itself. Read the labels carefully on the soaps and detergents you use and switch clothing that is looser. Finally you may want to consider getting moist wipes or using a cloth dampened with warm water to wipe yourself rather than toilet paper.

Treatment can include;

Anti-fungal creams either from the pharmacy or prescribed

Aloe vera gel

Tea tree oil or other essential oils

Probiotic supplements

Detoxification

Herbal anti-fungal treatments such as Pau D’arco

You are probably somewhat familiar with candida albicans if you have ever had a yeast infection. This is one of several species of Candida fungi that can live on a human but is usually benign when kept at low levels. Imbalance however can occur leading to the candida multiplying and this is not something that only happens in the vagina, a yeast infection can happen anywhere on the body, and it is a growing belief by many that you can also suffer from a candida albicans intestinal infection also.

Our intestinal health

The intestines have millions even billions of micro-organisms amongst which are good bacteria and a low number of candida. The good bacteria actually help our digestive system by breaking down foods, and help us absorb the nutrients we need. In terms of the fungus they are the reason candida stays at low and safe numbers in a healthy intestinal system. If something happens to the good bacteria this can cause a number of problems. You do not absorb the nutrients necessary for a strong immune system which leaves you open to infection, you may lose weight, suffer from malnutrition and the candida can overgrow.

Symptoms of candida albicans intestinal infection

Symptoms are extremely wide ranging and large in number. They include mental ones such as;

Depression

Fogginess

Mood swings

Poor concentration

Poor memory

Lethargy

Physical ones such as;

Fatigue

Cramps

Diarrhea

Constipation

Heartburn

Rashes

Urinary infections

Flu like symptoms

PMS

Modern medicine’s reaction to candida albicans intestinal infection

Most conventional doctors recognize systemic candida in hospitalized patients but do not accept intestinal candida infection as a condition in otherwise healthy people. Mostly because since candida lives naturally in the gut if there is overgrowth this is not a disease it is just an imbalance that can be rectified with diet and supplements. Whether you agree with this or not, there are things you can do yourself if your doctor is unwilling to help. Enzymes taken can help with digestion which will improve your immune system. Eating a diet low in sugar or cutting it out altogether will cut off the candida’s food supply, take probiotics to re-populate your intestines with good bacteria and consider taking vitamins and minerals as a supplement. There are also natural ways to kill some of the fungus when you have a candida albicans intestinal infection such as herbal remedies. You should also look for the root cause of the imbalance, if it is a course of antibiotics, your diet, medications and so on.

It is a fact that all around us are toxins that we take into our bodies, in the air we breathe, in the food we eat, in the water we drink. Our body has to find a way to get rid of those toxins and when there is a buildup of toxic metal inside us it can lead to many symptoms such as hormonal imbalance, slow healing, a weak immune system, allergies, skin problems and according to some research it can also aid candida overgrowth by creating an environment perfect for it to thrive in. So let’s explore the link between candida and metal toxicity.

Candida and metal toxicity – how one causes the other

If the intestines become overwhelmed by toxic metals the lining will produce extra mucus to stop those toxins from being able to enter the blood stream. However this extra mucus then makes the environment there more hospitable for bad bacteria and fungi like Candida to over grow. Your body is then dealing with too many toxic metals and too many toxins released by the candida and is unable to deal with them. Additionally the candida can bind itself to the heavy metals in your body. Many people that have candida problems find they also have a problem with metals too.

Types of metals involved

Mercury – vaccinations, fillings and so on.

Aluminum – foil, deodorant, cans.

Arsenic – smoking cigarettes.

Cadmium – as above.

Lead – old paint.

Symptoms of metal toxicity

Diarrhea

Vomiting

Numbness

Sweating

Nausea

Headaches

Stomach pain

Metallic taste

Motor and cognitive skills may be slowed

Skin burning

Dizziness

Anemia

High blood pressure

Mental confusion or memory loss

Shaking

Candida overgrowth

Fatigue

Weakness

Hyperactivity

Problems with your eyes

Problems with your kidneys

Autism

Dealing with candida and metal toxicity

Treatment needs to involve clearing out the metals as well as the candida to regain the balance that is so important for your body’s health. There are products you can get over the counter that claim to help remove the buildup of metals. Deal with the metal problem first as if that is not solved, the candida overgrowth will keep returning. Change your fillings, do a metal detox, avoid processed, junk, refined and canned foods, eat organically, filter your water.

This article looks at the link between inverse psoriasis and candida, and why they can be confused when trying to diagnose what your skin problem is. They are both two very spate conditions but in certain cases can have very similar symptoms. Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that occurs when your immune system incorrectly attacks healthy skin cells, and grows new skin cells abnormally fast. The most common form of psoriasis is Plaque psoriasis, but there are other less common forms of which inverse psoriasis is one, affecting a small percentage of psoriasis sufferers. Candida on the other hand is a fungal infection that affects many people. It is a yeast that lives on most human benignly in small numbers but can become pathogenic and cause various symptoms if it over grows. When looking at inverse psoriasis and candida we are focused on skin yeast infection in particular.

Skin yeast infection

As mentioned skin yeast infection or candida intertrigo is caused by an overgrowth of candida that already lived on your body. The toxins the candida releases as waste cause symptoms that vary depending on the form of yeast infection you get. Generally they include itching, inflammation and irritation. Skin yeast infection usually affects areas of the body that are moist and warm as this is where the fungus thrives. Places like the groin, under arms, in folds of skin, under breasts. The candida can overgrow due to a number of reasons, antibiotics that have depleted the good bacteria, a weakened immune system, hormonal imbalance and so on. It is not a contagious infection.

Inverse Psoriasis

Psoriasis is not fully understood yet but is understood to be as a result of a certain combination of genes that then cause the immune system to respond in a way it should not. There is then a hereditary factor, if psoriasis is in the family, particularly if one or both of your parents have it, you have much higher chances of developing it too. It is not a contagious skin condition either. Inverse psoriasis affects about 6% of people with psoriasis and is when the psoriasis forms in folds of skin, under arms, under breasts, the anus and the groin area. It is more common in patients with psoriasis who are overweight and it is possible to have plaque psoriasis elsewhere on the body and have inverse psoriasis as well. The problem here is that having inverse psoriasis in these places can make you more susceptible to candida infections there too.

Comparing inverse psoriasis and candida symptoms

There are some very obvious similarities between these two skin conditions which is why mis-diagnosis is possible, but there are also differences that a doctor should see when observing your condition. Here is a look at the symptoms and whether it is just inverse psoriasis, candida or both inverse psoriasis and candida.

Condition appears in moist areas, under arms, buttocks, skin folds, and so on – Both

Sweating and friction worsens the condition – Both

Discomfort or pain – Both

Itching – Both

Tenderness – Both

Inflammation – Both

Cracks or fissures – Inverse Psoriasis

A rash – Both

Secondary infections – Both

The rash has well defined borders – Inverse Psoriasis

The rash is intensely red in color – Inverse Psoriasis

White dots within the rash – Inverse Psoriasis

If the patient has other signs of psoriasis such as nail pitting or skin scales it is more likely to be Inverse Psoriasis though this needs checking.

If the patient has other sings of yeast infections such as vaginal or has a weakened immune system it is more likely to be Skin yeast infection, though this would need checking.

Post nasal drip is mucus that may have bacteria, viruses or fungi in it such as candida. When you are coughing up phlegm or mucus and sometimes you swallow it. But when it is swallowed it can affect your overall health as well as the health of your intestinal tract. But as well as this being a source of candida infection in the intestines, candida can also be the cause of post nasal drip.

Common causes of post nasal drip

Allergies – If post nasal drip is a common problem for you it could be caused by allergies that have not yet been identified. These allergies could be of foods you eat or something around you in your environment. It is quite possible you are having a delayed reaction to something as sometimes a reaction can take place weeks after the food that caused it was eaten. Allergies cause the nasal passages and sinus cavities to make a lot of mucus and since it cannot drain out of the nasal passages sometimes, it flows down the back of the throat.

The problem is what the mucus contains. Post nasal drip and candida organisms are something that some people have a real problem with. The Post nasal drip and candida can lodge in various membranes, as it passes down the throat, esophagus, stomach and then causing problems in the intestinal tract. Therefore identifying and dealing allergies is important not just for the sake of relieving the symptoms but also for preventing candida infection.

About Candida

90% of people have candida growing in them, but it is usually controlled by the immune system and good bacteria, which prevent it from growing into numbers that cause health problems. If that defense system is disrupted candida can be the cause of a wide range of health issues and symptoms, from digestive problems to respiration problems and this can lead to post nasal drip.

Patients on antibiotics are more at risk because these kill the good bacteria that hold the candida in check. Other triggers can be too much sugar and processed foods in your diet. Post nasal drip and candida need to be dealt with in order to get complete relief. Look to root causes rather than quick treatments, and identify any and all allergies you may have.

What to do with Post nasal drip

When you can spit out the mucus, it is much healthier, just find somewhere you can do discreetly and where it can be washed away.

Identify your allergies and try to avoid situations that stimulate them.

Try over the counter or natural allergy products to help clear out the mucus.

Identify the root cause of candida overgrowth and deal with it.

When a person gets a candida or yeast infection different people can experience different symptoms, and one of the less common but potential symptoms are candida sores. Having candida sores is a sign of a more severe infection that is perhaps being ignored and not treated because you are hoping it will just go away. But sores can be a sign of other health issues including herpes, so you really need to see a doctor and get a proper diagnosis so you can get treated. Candida sores can happen anywhere, the skin, the diaper area in babies, the mouth for Thrush, the vagina, penis and so on.

Causes of Candida sores

Usually in women the most common place to get candida sores is the vagina from a vaginal yeast infection and in men it is on the head of the penis from a penile yeast infection. Candida sores can even lead to candida bleeding. The cause of candida sores is the cause of your yeast infection. There are several triggers that can be at the root of a candida overgrowth and they include;

Antibiotics – kill the good bacteria that control the candida and keep it from overgrowing.

Diet – a diet high in sugar, refined foods and processed foods feeds the candida.

Diabetes – if uncontrolled this means you have higher blood sugar levels which feeds the candida.

Clothing – tight clothing or materials that are synthetic make you sweat more creating a moist and warm environment, the perfect breeding ground for fungus.

Chemicals/perfumes – scented products and those that use harsh chemicals can cause irritation and upset the balance of micro-organisms.

Vaginal candida sores or herpes?

Vaginal yeast infections and herpes can look very similar, irritation, burning, itching, redness, discharge, sores, are all symptoms that both infections can display. However herpes is a viral infection and candida is a fungal infection. There are some clues that can help you tell the difference.

The swelling in vaginal herpes is more of a lump in one place, whereas with a vaginal yeast infection it is general inflammation of the whole area.

The burning and itching of a vaginal yeast infection isn’t limited to one or two places, with herpes it is.

Vaginal yeast infection discharge is white and cottage cheese like in consistency and either smells yeasty or is odorless. With herpes it smells foul and is yellow and thick.

When a woman has herpes, a couple of days before the itching starts she has flu like symptoms, this does not happen with candida.

Candida sores in a vaginal yeast infection are not common, but herpes sores are.

The best and most accurate way to tell whether you have candida sores or something else like herpes though is to go straight to a doctor.

Treatment of jock itch depends on the cause of it, whether it is irritation, fungal or bacterial in nature. There are many treatment options to choose from and what works for some does not necessarily work for others so sometimes sufferers may have to try more than one treatment before having success. Make sure to talk to your doctor about the options to treat jock itch available to you. If its is from excess moisture you may need to address those problems and keep the area clean and dry, if it is a fungal infection you will need anti-fungal treatment like a cream.

For the itching symptoms you can choose from;

a short five- to seven-day course of a mild over-the-counter topical steroid cream like hydrocortisone (Cortaid) one to three times a day

a short five- to seven-day course of a mild to medium potency, topical steroid cream like prescription triamcinolone 0.025% once or twice a day

a topical immunomodulator such as pimecrolimus (Elidel) cream or tacrolimus (Protopic) ointment twice a day. These creams are approved for atopic dermatitis and eczema, so their use for jock itch would be termed “off label”

Of course the first thing a woman wants to know when she has a yeast infection is what is the best yeast infection treatment? But first you need to be sure that what you have is actually a yeast infection. Out of all the women who self diagnose themselves with a yeast infection, two thirds are wrong! They then believe they have a chronic yeast infection and that the treatments don’t work, but in fact they never had a yeast infection to start with. It doesn’t matter what the best yeast infection treatment is, if you have something else it won’t work! Plus whatever your condition is will worsen either from being mistreated or from being untreated. So before you ask what is the best yeast infection treatment, make sure you have a yeast infection by seeing your doctor.

About yeast infections

For a yeast infection treatment to be effective it has to be anti-fungal, whether it is a natural remedy or a medicated one, since a yeast infection is caused by the overgrowth of a fungus. Most people have this fungus already on and in them, just as we have many other micro-organisms living on us. Some of these tiny organisms are even necessary for our good health, like the good bacteria that keep the fungus called Candida Albicans at low numbers. Candida at low levels is harmless, it is only if a trigger causes an overgrowth that a yeast infection can happen. A yeast infection can happen anywhere on the body but prefers warm and damp places. Symptoms depend on where it is, but the most common form is of the vagina, which is why it typically affects women more than men. Itching, discharge, yeasty odor, redness, inflammation, burning when urinating and having sex, irritation, are all symptoms of a female yeast infection.

Causes of a yeast infection

While treatment may be the top thing on your mind, you also need to learn about how a yeast infection happens and what can cause the overgrowth or act as a trigger, so that you can try to prevent future infections. There are several causes or triggers and they include:

Diabetes

Obesity

High sugar intake

Hormonal changes

Stress

Weakened immune system

Antibiotics

So what is the best yeast infection treatment?

Unfortunately there is no one answer to that question, despite the claims other books, products and companies may make about whatever they are selling. Different people react differently to different treatments. The bottom line is there is no one single best yeast infection treatment ever. Get a group of women in a room who have had vaginal yeast infections and successfully treated them, and they could very well each have a different treatment they swear is the best yeast infection treatment ever. And it was, for them.

First of all you need to decide are you going to try natural/homeopathic treatments or do you prefer traditional medicated ones. Is your infection severe enough to need the stronger drug a doctor can prescribe, or is it mild enough to respond to over the counter treatments?

Is the best yeast infection treatment medicated?

If you decide to use medicated treatment you are still faced with a multitude of different brands all of which use different active ingredients in them, and they come in different forms. Do you want a cream, do you want a suppository capsule, suppository cream, pill, combination?! Now which drug will work better on you, tioconazole, clotrimazole, miconazole, butoconazole? The only way you are going to find out which medication is the best yeast infection treatment is by trying one and judging the results it gives you. Remember to take the full course of treatment, do not try something for 1 day and then give up. And if you find your infection doesn’t respond to any of them go back to your doctor and get yourself re-tested.

Is the best yeast infection treatment a natural one?

There is a very large selection of natural products and herbs that are anti-fungal and can be used to treat a yeast infection. There are several articles on this site that give more details about these, what they are and how to use them. Garlic, oregano oil, honey, apple cider vinegar, probiotic yogurt, tea tree oil, boric acid, have all been cited as effective by some women. As with the medicated option, you may have to try several before you find one that works for you, or it may be a combination of remedies that becomes the best yeast infection treatment for you. If you are interested in homeopathic alternative practitioners, find your local one and talk to them about your options.

Researchers from both the Universities of Kent and the University of Lille are looking into how yeasts including the Candida fungi, cause infections in hospitals. The teams were awarded 315,106 euros by the EU Interreg Programme to study how fungi cause disease. From Kent is Dr Fritz Muhlschlegel who is a Reader in Medical Microbiology in the Biosciences Department and Consultant Medical Microbiologist for the NHS Trust in the East Kent area. Lille’s expert is Dr Daniel Poullain.

The project aims to study the yeast cell wall, the structure where the yeast meets the patient. The researchers are going to be asking how Candida makes certain sugars that it then uses to attach and stick to human cells, and how Candida adjusts to a new environment. Dr Muhlschlegel explains the importance of carrying out such a study,

“Hospital acquired infections caused by yeasts such as Candida, pose considerable health and economic problems on both sides of the Channel. Fungal disease can affect patients over a large range of clinical disciplines: medical and surgical and pediatric intensive-care patients as well as cancer patients and transplant recipients.”

Dr Poullain adds to this further by saying,

“The management of these infections to an acceptable level has not been achieved. The main reason for this is that the way in which these organisms cause disease are not fully understood”.

Both research teams are internationally recognized for their work and though they may be on either side of the English Channel it is only an hour apart when travel is needed. With the outcome being a better understanding of Candida and how it causes disease, this study is important to the medical and scientific community worldwide. And with better knowledge of how Candida works could come better treatment for yeast infections and potentially even a vaccine!

This article is going to take you through some of the main yeast infection causes as well as looking at how to avoid it. Candida Albicans and its overgrowth is what leads to a yeast infection. These are a fungi that live on the body normally in controlled low numbers, harmless, in places such as the genitals, mouth, anus, intestinal tract. Basically where it is moist and warm. Its growth is limited by your immune system and the good bacteria also in our bodies. There are some things that can affect those controls though and lead to the over growth.

Living a healthier lifestyle will limit your chances of an infection. Getting enough sleep, avoiding late nights and drinking alcohol will help a lot. Unprotected sex should also be avoided as a yeast infection can be passed on in this manner. If you do not pay attention to such things you could end up with a chronic condition where you are dealing with repeated outbreaks during the year.

Though more common in women, it is not exclusively a female infection, men can get it too as can children. It is more common in women because the vagina is such an ideal environment for the yeast to grow and because of the various hormonal changes they undergo such as menopause, birth control pills, menstruation and pregnancy. All of these upset the natural balance of the body and thus can trigger an overgrowth.

To avoid this there are some things you can do. There are triggers that can be avoided. Tight fitting clothing needs to be changed to loose clothing, maintain proper hygiene and cut out foods with sugar and yeast. Any perfumed soaps or scented products can cause chemical imbalance so should also be avoided.

Talk to your doctor if you think you see some of the yeast infection causes to get a proper diagnosis and to talk about treatment options. There are medicated treatments as well as natural remedies. Do not let the condition drag on as ignoring it will not make it go away. Natural remedies are becoming more popular with women who are not happy with the results they get with drug based treatments and want something that is effective, easy to get and has no side effects.

Living on our bodies are many micro-organisms including a fungus called candida albicans and good bacteria. The good bacteria keep the growth of the fungus under control. A yeast infection happens when the natural balance of the body is disrupted and those good bacteria are killed, allowing the yeast to overgrow.

It can affect anywhere on the body but is more common in the mouth, genitalia and intestinal tract. Symptoms vary but include:

•	Lack of energy.
•	Swelling and rashes.
•	An unusual white genital discharge.
•	Fingernail and toenail infections.
•	Itching that is intense and burning.
•	Migraines, fogginess and mood swings.
•	Joint pains and muscle aches.
•	Digestive discomfort and gas.

The pH of your body can be affected which leads to it being more acidic, the ideal environment for the yeast to grow in. Quite often there is not just one yeast infection cause, but several. It is not always easy to diagnose as some symptoms are the same for several possible ailments. Many people rely on over the counter treatments to give relief from those symptoms, but they do not treat the root yeast infection cause. This means people can develop a recurring problem. There are some lifestyle changes we can make to help prevent an infection:

•	Chemicals – Some vaginal sprays and deodrants cause an allergic reaction. Though anti perspirants may kill some of the odor causing bacteria, some of those bacteria are the good ones that control the fungus’ growth.
•	Diet – Eating too much sugar can be a large causing factor as yeast feeds on sugar. Junk food is also bad as it produces the acidic environment the yeast likes. Fruit and vegetables are better because they create a more alkaline environment.
•	Antibiotics – kill good bacteria as well as the bad.
•	Clothing – should be breathable materials like cotton and should not be too tight.
•	Weak Immune system – caused by lack of sleep, stress etc. This combined with one other factor can trigger an outbreak.
•	Warm and damp environment – Make sure you wash after exercise and get out of wet clothing.
•	Condoms – Latex can cause an allergic reaction. Also some have a spermicide or lubricant added that contain Nonoxymol 9 which can trigger an attack.
•	Infected partner – Since it can be passed on during sex, if one partner is infected both need to be treated.

Candida is a fungus that lives on the body and when overgrows leads to a recurrent yeast infection. It can be anywhere, the vagina, mouth, blood, rectum. Usually the growth is controlled by the immune system and the good bacteria in your body but sometimes things can adversely affect these which then leads to candida overgrowth.

Both men and women can get a recurrent yeast infection though it is thought of as a female problem because it is more common in women, usually as a vaginal infection. Children can also get it both as Thrush (in the mouth) and in the diaper area. In women over three quarters will or have had it and out of those 40 per cent have a recurring problem.

The vagina’s environment is acidic naturally and when that is changed it can cause a recurrent yeast infection. Usually the body is able to maintain that balance but sometimes the vaginal acid balance is disturbed and so the fungus can overgrow and lead to an infection. Factors that can cause a recurring yeast infection are:

•	Stress
•	Lack of sleep
•	Tight and/or synthetic underwear
•	Birth control pills
•	A diet too high in refined foods and sugars
•	Hormone changes such as pregnancy, menstruation and menopause
•	Antibiotics
•	Treating with the same conventional over the counter drugs that the fungus then builds a resistance to

An infection that happens four times a year is considered a recurring yeast infection. It is important to avoid things that can cause an infection such as birth control pills, starchy and sugary foods etc. Once you have control of the causing factors, then you can limit your infection chances and if one should happen use natural means to treat it.

Before you do any form of treatment however you should see your doctor to get a confirmed diagnosis as there are other infections and illnesses with similar symptoms. You can also use that opportunity to discuss treatment options with him or her.

Hormones really do have an affect on yeast infections or Candida albicans the fungus that causes the infection. It likes to spread in areas that are warm and wet such as the mouth, the vagina and under folds of skin. In fact many people carry the fungus naturally on their bodies without it doing any harm. It is only when it is able to overgrow that it becomes a yeast infection.

Here are a few yeast infection causes

When a woman has a vaginal yeast infection she experiences uncomfortable symptoms such as discharge, swelling and itching. There are several factors that may lead to this condition such as steroid and antibiotic use. But included in them are hormonal changes such as pregnancy, menopause, menstruation, diabetes and birth control pills. Another factor is the state of the immune system, for example a cancer patient after a treatment will be more at risk of getting a yeast infection.

How do hormones have an affect?

When a woman is pregnant, ovulating or menstruating she releases certain hormones that makes them more likely to getting a yeast infection. Though there are no specific visible direct links cases of female yeast infections rise during the three main hormonal times of their lives, menopause, menstruation and pregnancy.

Stress is also a factor as during high stress times women have digestive problems, fatigue, skin problems, allergies and memory loss worsens.

The adrenals produce an anti inflammatory hormone called cortisol during stressful times. This breaks down tissues to release nutrients, proteins and sugars to the organs and muscles so they are nourished when under stress. To balance the cortisol Dhea is then released. This all weakens the immune system and raises the levels of sugar in the blood. Also the cortisol sometimes kills good bacteria.

Estrogen and Progesterone

Hormone therapy can cause yeast infections because it can create an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone. It adversely affects the good bacteria leading to candida over growth and an infection.

Hormone therapy often causes yeast infections in women’s vagina. The most important of them is the estrogen therapy. Any imbalance between estrogen and another hormone namely progesterone could lead to causing Candida. This leads to have a negative effect on the friendly and protective bacteria. As a result the Candida tends to overgrow. Thus both of these hormones, whether in excess or not in balance with each other, will have a direct effect on causing of Candida to thrive and destroying the protective friendly bacteria.

Many factors can cause yeast infection in a person but hormonal changes inside a woman’s body is the primary factor that leads to yeast infection.

Many women suffer from a vaginal yeast infection at some point in their life and it can be very uncomfortable to deal with. Symptoms include nasty things like a smelly discharge, severe itching, burning and general discomfort. With more and more women facing this problem and as infections keep recurring, gynecologists are faced with the same question each day, how does a woman successfully treat a vaginal yeast infection?

If you observe what you believe to be yeast infection symptoms you should go to your doctor straight away for a check up and a proper diagnosis. In particular pregnant women need to pay attention as the imbalance of hormones means pregnant women are more prone to yeast infections. There are creams that a doctor may prescribe to apply or suppositories that can be push up the vagina. These medicated treatments often come with side effects though, so when pregnant care has to be taken that you do not inadvertently harm your unborn child.

There are natural remedies that can be used that are effective and free of side effects. Plain yogurt is a common one women use, dipping a tampon into it and inserting it, then leaving it for 15 to 20 minutes. Do this a few times a day (use a pad so that any yogurt draining out is caught) and within a week the infection should be cleared. You can also smear the yogurt around the vagina like a cream.

Ideally preventing an infection in the first place is the best thing to do. Keep the vagina clean and dry so that the conditions it thrives in (wet and warm) are controlled to prevent its growth.

A toddler yeast infection can be quite painful which in turn makes it emotionally difficult for the parents knowing your child is in pain and is distressed. This article is for parents who need advice or tips on how to prevent a toddler yeast infection and what to do if he has one.

What to treat an infection with really depends on how severe it is. If it is a mild case there are anti-fungal creams that are effective in treating the yeast infection that can be prescribed by a doctor and gotten over the counter. If the infection is more severe such treatments are sometimes ineffective so you may need to look at other options of treating your child. For example there are natural remedies that are both effective and safe to use.

Of course prevention is the better route to take if you are lucky enough to have a child not yet infected. So to prevent your toddler yeast infection or stop a mild yeast infection becoming a severe one there are a few things you can make sure you do. Regularly change the diaper so that the baby never has to sit in a wet diaper for long. The yeast grows and thrives in areas that are warm and damp, so taking that environment away helps control its growth rate.

When you change the baby, clean and dry the area properly, and do not reuse a towel that you have used to wipe the area, to prevent it spreading. Let the bottom air out before putting on the new diaper as air circulation is also good for it.

If you are interested in natural treatments there are many places online that offer suggestions but it is always still advisable to disucss this with the child’s doctor.

Pessaries, creams and prescribed yeast infection medication are not the only way to get rid of a yeast infection when you find yourself faced with that problem. Woman are prone to getting yeast infections unfortunately so you really need to look for something more permanent to deal with it.

The yeast infection medication, over the counter remedies and antibiotics turn the treatment into a cycle, a vicious one, where the infection returns but worse than it was before each time. Though the treatments will vary according to where you are in the world, the common ones in the western world are Monistat, Canesten and Diflucan. They are easy to use and are not particularly expensive and usually are pretty fast acting on the symptoms. But there are several problems with using them.

Firstly they are a temporary fix designed to make the sufferer feel better and mask up the symptoms she is experiencing, so you get relief from that nasty itching for example. But they are not healing the main root cause of the yeast infection. Nor do they help with women who get yeast infections frequently as if you keep using them the yeast will develop a resistance to them. It is also worth considering the side effects that come with these options. All drugs come with side effects and these are no different, some of which are fairly serious. These drugs will fail to work or could even make matter worse for you. Such drug treatments can also cause damage to your body such as liver poisoning, this lowers your immune system and then leaves you more likely to get a yeast infection again.

There are alternatives to these conventional methods. They are effective for thousands of people across the world and they do not just mask symptoms, they help you treat the root cause and re-balance your body. Look at natural remedies next time you need a yeast infection treated, safe, simple and they work.

A yeast infection is something that over half of women will get at least once in their life leading them to suffer through vaginal discharge and odor as well as itching and irritation. However it is not just a female infection, men can suffer from it too, but it is not as common. The one that most commonly affects people is caused by a fungus that called Candida. Usually harmless, when it overgrows it leads to a yeast infection. Before you look at treatments though, make sure you have a professional diagnosis. This is particularly important if it is the first time you have had it, so that you can be sure you are effectively treating it, and it is not a different ailment that just has similar symptoms.

Usually people look at the medicated options that can be gotten from their local drug store. There are several yeast infection creams that you can choose from made by different companies all of which have their own dosages and instructions of application. Though it may be tempting to opt for a 1 day treatment, try to resist as with these you will find your symptoms will return and grow increasingly severe with each case. Such a short treatment is not getting to the source of the infection. For example if you have weeds in the garden, yes it’s quicker to just cut them back but the roots are still there so they will keep returning. You need to pull the weeds out by the root, just as you need to choose a treatment that goes to the root of your infection.

When you are looking for a cream you want to look at the active ingredients in them. Often a store brand yeast infection cream will have the same active ingredients as a name brand treatment but costs a lot less for the same effect. A reliable cream should have at least three active ingredients but since there are variations between them it is possible that your first cream is not as effective as you would have hoped, meaning you should try another that has active ingredients that are a little different.

Make sure the medication you chose is designed to treat candida infections or you will not see the promised results. When the infection and symptoms have responded to treatment and have gone, keep the container or write down the active ingredients in case you get it again.

For a start it is important to understand that you cannot get a yeast infection after sex. But it can be passed on from an infected partner to the other. The genitals are a great place for a yeast infection to happen because they are the ideal environment, particularly the vagina (warm, dark and damp). If one partner is infected it can get transferred to the other, and then if only one treats themselves, it can get passed back again, getting harder to treat and so on.

The cause of the infection is a fungus called Candida. It resides in our bodies and usually causes no health problems for us. The good bacteria also living within us control the growth of the fungus because if this balance is upset and the good bacteria are depleted, then the fungus can multiply rapidly and this leads to a yeast infection. It can be hard to get rid of a yeast infection and continuing to have sexual relations will make it harder.

The best action to take is to abstain completely from having sex because is possible to get a yeast infection after sex. Condoms are not ideal because there are some spermicides that actually make the infection worse. Now abstaining for a long time can be frustrating so I am sure you want a treatment that is effective and fast. There are several options when you want to treat it.

Mainstream include creams and lotions topically applied and pessaries. They work fairly well but as they are drug based they do come with side effects and tend to treat the symptoms rather than the root cause. Also the infection can learn a resistance to the drug based options. This leads to a recurring yeast infection.

This means more people are turning to natural options as they are free from side effects and deal with the root causes. There are many to choose from so do your research carefully and find the one or ones that work best for you.

Most doctors can diagnose a yeast infection in otherwise healthy patients, without performing a yeast infection test, though if it is a first infection a test may be performed for accuracy. After a course of treatment is tried, if the infection does not go away then tests may be done.

The yeast infection is the result of an overgrowth of the fungus Candida albicans and is very common in the vagina. But there are other vaginal infections that have similar symptoms and so usually vaginal secretions can be examined under a microscope to be certain. In most cases a yeast infection is not a serious condition, as long as it is diagnosed and treated properly.

The definitive way to diagnose a vaginal yeast infection is by undergoing a full gynecological exam and lab tests being conducted. An instrument called a speculum is used to hold the vagina open and it can be a little uncomfortable due to the pressure. A swab is then taken of the vaginal discharge and cultures may be taken to check for other diseases. The yeast infection test involves the swab being mixed with a drop of potassium hydroxide. If a certain branching pattern can be seen under the microscope it indicates the presence of yeast.

The exam may then lead to the doctor inserting two fingers into the vagina to check for tenderness or problems with the ovaries, uterus or surrounding areas. Blood and urine samples may also be taken. An accurate diagnosis can be made difficult if a woman has sex or douches one to two days before an exam, so avoid both.

When testing toddlers their skin is scraped and then looked at under a microscope. Toddlers typically get yeast infections because they thrive in areas such as a warm, wet diaper. If it seems a toddler has a diaper rash but it has not cleared up after a couple of days then visit your child’s doctor to get it examined. Untreated yeast infections in toddlers can cause great discomfort, so if you want to help your kid you’ll need an accurate diagnosis.

Symptoms vary from one person to another so the best way to be sure you have a yeast infection is to have a doctor diagnose it. Half of people who self diagnose themselves with a yeast infection actually have something else, so whatever symptoms you are exhibiting, get some professional advice.

A lot of people view a yeast infection as an adult problem and in particular a female problem, but that would be incorrect. A yeast infection can happen to anyone, no matter their age or gender, and it is quite common in babies.

There are several yeast infection causes. One is if an infected mother is breast feeding it can be passed on during feeding. If the mother was infected when giving birth it could also have been passed on to the baby in the womb. After all their immune system is not yet fully developed and strong enough to fight it. A diet too high in sugars, candy, cookies, cakes, can also be a causing factor as yeast feeds on the sugar.

It is important to keep the baby clean and dry to avoid getting an infection, because baby yeast infections are quite dangerous. The yeast thrives in environments that are moist and warm so a wet diaper area is a perfect breeding ground for it. Change the diaper often and try not to use harsh soaps that can cause irritation and make the contraction of a yeast infection even more likely.

Antibiotics are another yeast infection cause so if you have a sickly child that is on antibiotics often this is something you should discuss with your child’s doctor. If the mother is breastfeeding and is on antibiotics this could be another cause as the antibiotics can be passed to the baby through the mother’s milk. Antibiotics can cause yeast infections because they kill all bacteria in the body, even the good bacteria that fights the infection by controlling the yeast’s growth.

A mouth yeast infection also know as Thrush can also be common in babies as well as the genital area. Thrush (notable by the white patches on the roof of the mouth and on the inside of the cheeks) can spread to the digestive tract and then infect the anus through the excretion.

If you have any concerns about symptoms your child is showing do not wait, take them to their doctor for a professional diagnosis and discuss treatment options before the infection worsens.
