Signs of a Yeast Infection

In order to correctly self diagnose whether you have a yeast infection you really need to be familiar with the usual symtpoms that women report. Being able to self diagnose also means you are able to treat the infection that much quicker which means a greater chance of success. It is important not to ignore symptoms as the infection is not going to magically disappear. You need to be very sure that it is a yeast infection and not a bacterial problem before you treat it as some of the symptoms are similar and even doctors have confused the two with incorrect diagnosis.

Below are six main symptoms and then some other signs that are not directly linked to the vagina.

1. Itching – this is the most commonly reported symptom, sometimes women say that it can get so severe it is hard to walk and impossible to leave the house.

2. Burning – The burning is usually as a result of too much scratching. It burns particularly when urine passes over cracked irritated skin.

3. Pain- when uriniating and during sexual intercourse. It is important to note that yeast infections can be passed to your sexual partner, whatever their gender, during intercourse, so if you are able to have sex use a condom.

4. Discharge – Usually a thick in consistency and white or clear in color. A few have said it was yellowy. The consistency can change however and can be like cottage cheese or even watery.

5. Odor – A yeasty smell like bread or beer. The smell you find in a bakery or brewing facility.

6. Swelling and redness – Again usually from scratching the infected area too much.

Other signs of a yeast infection that are not vaginal include depression, acne, joint aches, lethargy and a lowering of self esteem. There are other symptoms out there though, so if you are suffering from any of these plus you are experiencing symptoms or signs that are not usual for your health seek medical help.
