Preventing Yeast Infections

There are various foods that are really good to make sure they are in your diet if you want to prevent a yeast infection. A good, healthy balanced diet is very important and plays a key role in treating and preventing yeast infections. Being able to maintain the diet can be hard at times, we all have to deal with temptation, but sticking to it can mean years of symptom free relief rather than facing the prospect of reoccurring infections.

Yogurt – Yogurt can be applied to the infected area as a treatment but can also be eaten regularly as part of a healthy diet. It is important you get the right kind of yogurt, it has to be probiotic, sugar and fruit free as sugar feeds the yeast and actually helps it grow. It works because of the good bacteria in it which fight the Candida microorganisms.

Garlic – Has fantastic anti-fungal properties. Eating some cloves of fresh garlic a day will help your immune system and fight the fungus.

Carrots – These are also anti-fungal. The bonus to these is that they are easy to get and are cheap.
Seaweed – This has iodine in it and helps prevent an infection.

Apple cider vinegar – Helps rebalance inside the intestinal tract boosting the immune system and stops bad bacteria growing in the bowel.

Generally your diet should include plenty of fruit and vegetables, chicken, nuts, honey, eggs and beef. There are foods you should cut out of your diet too. Though they do not necessarily lead to an infection they help one that already exists to develop by feeding it. These include dairy products including cheese. Avoid foods with yeast in them such as bread, mushrooms and beer. Sugar feeds yeast infections so cut back on cookies, cakes and so on. Also stop eating processed foods and foods that use white flour.

By taking control of your diet you are making the environment inside your body less hospitable to a yeast infection and you are cutting off its food supply. Also try making other lifestyle changes such as limiting caffeine and alcohol, get a good hygienic routine going, avoid stress and sleep well.
