A lot of women tend to self-diagnose when they believe they have a yeast infection due to embarrassment. They get over the counter yeast infection treatments and use it on a Candida yeast infection. Unfortunately, a lot of women do not realize that many otc creams can cause bacterial and chemical imbalances in the vagina. Therefore it would be wise not to use anti-fungal remedies unless you know for certain you have a yeast infection. Sometimes these over the counter treatments for Candida infections can in fact lead to the usually dormant Candida albicans yeast, multiplying and spreading. So using a treatment you do not need for a non-existent yeast infection, leads to you getting a yeast infection. Oh and the treatment is no longer going to work because the yeast becomes resistant to it!

Of course now you have a decision to make, try natural remedies or take an even stronger anti fungal oral treatment. The side effects to the latter are that you will get an imbalance in your intestines chemically and bacterially. Your immune system can be drastically affected in a negative manner as the intestinal flora in your intestines are upset.

It is a common and concerning problem nowadays that people use medications when they do not need to; or doctors prescribe antibiotics when they are not needed, leading to infections and diseases building a resistance to them. This is what women are doing when they use a cream when it is not needed. The yeast becomes more drug resistant and so ointments no longer work. Trying to keep the area clean and free of the yeast by using treatments when there is no infection is not helping, it is back firing. Wash as you normally do, dry properly and remember the vagina is actually self cleaning.

Should you notice any symptoms of a yeast infection such as itching, burning, or an unpleasant odor make sure you go to see your physician to get a proper diagnosis, as yeast infections can present symptoms that are the same or similar to other illnesses. By using anti fungal treatments for a candida infection you don’t have, not only are you creating an infection, you are also leaving what you really have untreated. This could become serious.

In conclusion, over the counter yeast infection treatments may sometimes be effective but other times can do harm, so it’s best to avoid them and go for natural remedies.
