There are several types of home remedies included here, douching (though this is not a long term practice a woman should carry out), self made suppositories, drinks, powder and a bolus. For those that do not want to use medicated treatments to treat a yeast infection the herbal remedy recipes for the treatment of a yeast infection included here may be just what you need.

Douches

As mentioned, douching is not something a woman should do anymore as a regular hygiene practice, but it can be used when you are trying to treat a yeast infection. There are several recipes here for a herbal douche that will help relieve your symptoms.

  1. Mix forty drops of Echinacea, forty drops of calendula essence and forty drops of goldenseal essence with one pint of water and then add two tablespoons of aloe vera essence. This will help ease the inflammation and soothe irritated vaginal tissues. These herbs can be used apart but are more beneficial when used together.
  2. Mix together Echinacea essence with goldenseal essence and then take twenty drops of this mix and add it to a pint of water. Add 6 drops of tea tree oil and a tablespoon of calendula tincture.
  3. In a cup of water mix in four tablespoons of apple cider vinegar then add to bath water and soak in it for fifteen to twenty minutes once or twice a day for a few days until symptoms abate.
  4. Mix together ½ an ounce of anti yeast tea (recipe below) with 1 tablespoon of acidophilus culture or ¼ cup plain live yogurt. Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 small drop of tea tree oil. Steep in a quart of water for an hour and then strain it. Allow to cool and then use a slow flow to douche with. Do every few days unless the infection is more severe in which case do daily.

Yoni Powder

Another of the herbal remedy recipes for the treatment of a yeast infection is this powder. You need:

  • 2 tablespoons of black walnut hull powder
  • ½ cup of cornstarch
  • 1 cup fine white clay
  • 2 tablespoons myrrh powder
  • 1 tablespoon goldenseal powder
  • 1 or 2 drops of tea tree oil

Whisk the ingredients together and put into a spice jar that has a top like a shaker to apply onto the infected area. Any remaining powder can be stored in a glass jar that has a lid that fits tightly.

Drinks

  1. Eight ounces of unsweetened cranberry juice to be drunk daily.
  2. Anti-yeast tea to drink 3 times a day either in between meals or at least half an hour before eating. This recipe does make a bitter tea so adding unsweetened cranberry juice can make a better flavor.

You will need:

  • 2 parts raspberry leaf
  • 2 parts sage
  • 2 parts mullein
  • ¼ part goldenseal root

A quart of water takes 4 to 6 tablespoons of the herb mixture. Add them to cold water and then simmer over a low heat keeping the pot covered. Once at a simmer remove from heat and allow to steep for 20 minutes then strain.

Bolus

Herbal boluses are an old fashioned herbal remedy and are messy to make and can take up some time. But they are successful as one of the herbal remedy recipes for the treatment of a yeast infection.

You will need:

  • 3 parts slippery elm powder
  • 1 part finely ground myrrh powder
  • 1 part black walnut hull powder
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • a few drops of tea tree oil
  • 1.2 part goldenseal powder
  • 1 part pau d’arco powder

All the herbs need to be in a fine powder so run them through a grinder and then a very fine sieve. Now in a saucepan melt the coconut oil over a low heat. Once it is all melted take it off the heat and stir in the powdered herbs. You need to add enough powder so that it becomes a thick paste. Then add the drops of tea tree oil and roll the mixture into boluses the shape and size of your pinky. You then insert a bolus up the vagina each evening, and wear panty liners for any mixture that oozes out, as the coconut oil melts there is dripping.

Suppositories

These simply use the natural healing and anti-fungal properties of raw garlic. They are one of the easier herbal remedy recipes for the treatment of a yeast infection.

  • First take a clove of garlic and carefully peel it making sure you do not pierce the flesh if you have a sensitive nature. Though there is some argument that a little nick in the clove is good as it allows the juices out in some women this can cause a lot of discomfort and burning.
  • Wrap the clove in gauze and twist the end so it has a tail.
  • Insert into the vaginal cavity. For smooth insertion use a herbal oil on the end of the suppository.
  • Use a fresh one every 3 to 5 hours if possible and repeat for up to 5 days.
