Although both men and women can be affected by a yeast infection it is more common in women. Women usually get it in the vagina and it causes swelling, redness, itching, and soreness. Sometimes it seems no matter what you do to treat it, it just keeps coming back. Here are some ideas on how to at least relieve you of those symptoms so you can get back to your lives!

1) Yogurt

Get yourself some live cultured plain unsweetened yogurt and use it directly on the affected area. It is messy so have a towel ready! You can also dip a tampon in the yogurt and insert it, or dip a tampon in the yogurt and then put it into a plastic bag and put it in the freezer. When it has frozen you can then insert it. Do this when you are going to be laying down for a while, so perhaps before you go to bed. The yogurt has good bacteria in it so these will help fight the fungus, and it is wonderfully soothing, easing the burning and giving relief from the itching.

2) Garlic

Not powder, the fresh stuff. You can insert a peeled clove of garlic into the vagina, again ideally before going to bed. You want it to stay in so push it in far enough but do make sure you can remove it in the morning. If you do not think you will be able to with just your fingers, tie a string around it a let the string dangle out much like a tampon, for easier removal. Make sure when you peel the clove that you do not accidently nick or cut the clove as this will cause a stinging / burning feeling that is uncomfortable. You may get some discharge with this method, so a pad may be a good idea. The garlic works because it has anti-fungal properties.

3) Apple Cider Vinegar

This one is very simple. Just pour yourself a warm bath and add one to two cups of apple cider vinegar to it. Soak in it for around half an hour for temporary relief.
